DEPORTIVO IN FEBRUARY

30 Jan 2014
Four new challenges in February as Deportivo are still battling for the direct promotion seats. Three of the rivals are mid-table teams, but the Galicians also face a “final” against the current runners-up, Sporting Gijón.

After breaking the negative streak of five straight matches without victories, Los Blanquiazules return to the leadership at liga Adelante, Now they want to increase their lead at the top as the tournament reaches its final stretch and February gives a good chance to do it as three of the four rivals in the month are teams living at mid-table, always remembering that anything can happen in a so close competition like the Segunda.

The month begins for Depor with the home game against CE Sabadell CF. The Catalans have been facing problems throughout the season and already spent four matchdays in the pit, but a solid run of four straight wins pulled them out of the danger, though they have only added one of the last six points in dispute.

Then, the Galicians visit Real Murcia, a team living a very unstable situation. The Murcians were the second place by the end of October (matchday 10), but since that point they have only won one of their last fourteen places, reason why they lie at mid-table. Murcia is also the team with more draws on the season (12).

And then Depor face one of the biggest challenges on the season: Sporting Gijón visiting the Riazor. The Asturians face some problems at the middle of the first round, but have bounced back and have only lost one of the last twelve games. Besides, they are one of the three teams that already occupied the first place for more than one week and have spent 18 matchdays between the first six places, mark only behind Recreativo (24).

February ends for Depor with the visit to AD Alcorcón. Many fans still remembering the humiliating 0-4 loss suffered two years ago, but this is a softest version of the Madrilenian club. Los Alfareros won the first three matches in the tournament, later only managed to win 4 of the last 20 games, reason why they currently are only one point above the pit.
