The last signing of the season 2013/14 was presented on Friday. Uruguayan striker Diego Ifrán lands in A Coruña as the replacement of Salomão. He will play loaned until the end of the season and there’s no buyout option over the player.

Diego Ifrán (shirt number 19) was presented on Friday as the latest Deportivo’s signings. The transfer window is closed, but his arrival was possible after the serious injury sustained by Diogo Salomão. The Uruguayan striker arrives loaned until the end of the season coming from Real Sociedad and there’s no buyout option over the player.

The striker completed the medicals between Thursday and Friday and training in the gym; he wasn’t picked for the meeting against Barcelona B. Ifrán is a central attacker that hasn’t played on this season with Real Sociedad after suffering a serious knee injury during the pre-season; he received the medical okay in January and is reported to be fit to play.

Despite Salomão is a left winger, the club decided to hire a new attacker, the fourth at the first team. Coach Fernando Vázquez already stated that he is open to use the former Danubio attacker on the left wing. With the arrival of the Uruguayan the number of players at the first team continues to be twenty-one.

Ifrán was presented on Friday’s afternoon at the Riazor. President Tino Fernández wasn’t there for the event, so instead sporting advisor Fernando Vidal and communication advisor Daniel Ramos were the ones that introduced the player to the media.

Vidal thanked Real Sociedad for granting the operation despite the club only had €40,000 available in the salary cap, “We want to thank Real Sociedad for their great behavior and also the player for wanting to come. He was perfect during the medicals and is ready to compete. He’s a good and fast player that knows how to manage the ball.”

Later the Uruguayan striker explained how he landed at Depor, “I received offers at the middle of the winter window, but it’s hard to leave any team, beside I was happy at Real Sociedad, though there was a moment when I needed to play. Last Tuesday they informed me about the interest of Depor then I spoke to the club and said that I wanted to come. I had pretty memories of Depor’s fans from the last game of Real on here, despite they suffered the relegation and that we were celebrating the qualification to the Champions League, there were applauses ad we were welcomed.”

About his place on the pitch, the player explained where he likes to perform, “I can adapt and play on the sides acting like a winger, but my position is the centre of the attack, though the previous coach moved me to perform on the wing. In any case I’m coming here in order to give everything and clinch the promotion.”

A fact that called the attention during the presentation was the names of the other possibilities to replace Salomão. According to Fernando Vidal the club attempted to complete the return of Bruno Gama, but the option was ruled out due to some legal issues, while the advisor confessed that Juan Culio called the club as he wanted to return, but that the option wasn’t considered due to financial reasons.

Vidal also explained that the arrival of Albert Riera was never considered due to financial reasons and also that the other two targets of the club were Diego Mario Buonanotte and Dani Benitez, players that currently belong to Granada CF.
