Easy win for Deportivo before a rival that didn’t fulfill the expectations. After claiming an early lead, the Galician outfit managed the game and scored the second goal through two substitutes. Recre played with 10 men for the final 20 minutes.

No surprises with Fernando VázquezLux was the starting keeper, Laure performed at the right side of the defense, Seoane played on the left, while the centre-backs were Lopo and Insua.

At midfield there was only one pivote: Juan Dominguez. Then, Sissoko and Luisinho were attacking from the sides, while Rabello and Juan Carlos were the two playmakers. Finally, Borja Bastón was the central attacker.

Meanwhile, there was a little revolution at Recreativo. Coach Sergi Barjuan announced changes one day before and he practically changed the entire team, including the draw, because he also put a trivote at midfield that included the presence of ex-Depor Jesús Vázquez. The references in attack were Álvaro Antón. Manuel Arana and Joselu Moreno.

The game was understood as final, but the true is that it seemed like a match without importance for Recre. And it’s that the Andalusian side barely disturbed Lux; it released endless long throws that were always going out and also committed two huge errors at defense. Neither Depor did too much, but it was enough to create four opportunities and seize one of the rival’s errors to score the first goal.

Depor were trying to have the ball since the kick-off. Recreativo were trying to move through fast attacks and were pressing at midfield, so the game seemed entertaining since the start. On Saturday, Sergi Barjuan warned that his team should avoid conceding goals at the first and the last minutes of the game, and their players didn’t pay attention to him.

Because Depor scored an early goal after a terrible mistake from the visiting defense. Córcoles passed the ball to Menosse and the Uruguayan defender was too slow to react as Juan Carlos came from behind to collect the ball inside the area and score through a low shot past Jesús Cabrera. It’s his third goal in liga.

After the goal Deportivo were feeling pretty comfortable on the pitch, attacking through quick attacks, while Recreativo were lost up front. The Andalusian outfit started to have the ball, but their attacks were always ending in low throws without aim.  The first attempt from the visiting team came at minute 21; it was a drilling shot from Arana that missed the target.

But Depor was getting too relaxed, to the point that it barely stepped into the rival’s area. So, with the passage of the minutes the meeting became boring. At minute 23, Sissoko volley the ball into the area, but Borja Bastón failed to control it. Recreativo continued to push, but always having the same problems to create scoring chances.

Neither Deportivo were vertical enough to create scoring opportunities. The long throws of Lux searching for Borja Bastón were always giving the advantage to the rival’s defense. At least things improved within the final 20 minutes. The second shot on target for the locals came until minute 31, Laure released a low cross from the right and Borja Bastón attempted a shot backwards the goal, but Cabrero made the save.

At minute 35, the play of the first goal was close to be repeated. Luisinho stole the ball near the area and assisted Juan Carlos, but this time the playmaker couldn’t connect the ball properly and later the shot of Borja Bastón went out.

Tidy performance of Depor in the second part. Without flaws and this time the changes of Fernando Vázquez worked out. Even the timing was perfect as the second goal was followed by a red card for the rival, so the Galician outfit lived a placid period within the final 20 minutes.

The second part started with a polemic decision from referee David Medié Jiménez. Depor were releasing a corner-kick and Morcillo fell over Lopo when the defender was about to connect the ball. No call was made and Laure was even booked for protesting.

The game continued in the same path of the first: Recreativo were trying to push, but they were missing too many passes and their long throws were missing the target. Meanwhile, Depor were having more depth. At minute 54, Seoane released a cross from the left that Borja Bastón headed over the crossbar.

Recreativo were committing tough tackles, Juan Carlos and Sissoko were the ones that suffered the most and Juan Dominguez needed a bandage on his wrist after a collision with Jesús Vázquez. Precisely the former midfielder of Depor committed a tackle from behind when he was previously booked, but the referee didn’t want to show the second yellow card.

By minute 65, Depor seemed tired and were no longer stepping into the rival’s area. So, Vázquez made two substitutions as Antonio Núñez and Diego Ifrán replaced Juan Carlos and Borja Bastón, and the substitutes only needed one minute to bring the second goal.

Núñez got the ball at the right wing and released a perfect cross that Ifrán met at the box to head the ball in. It’s the second goal in liga for the Uruguayan player. And one minute later defender Morcillo was sent off with two yellow cards after a foul over Ifrán.

So, the game passed from the typical situation witnessed on this season in which the result was in danger to a scenario in which everything was settled by minute 70. Depor were now playing with a 4-2-3-1 figure and didn’t suffer before a poor rival that was highly disappointing due to what was at stake.

The lonely approximation of the Andalusian tam within the final 20 minutes was an attempt of Joselu that was caught by Lux (72’). In the rest of the game Deportivo were closer to score the third goal after enjoying of three clear opportunities. . Luis Fernández was the last substitution claiming the spot of Sissoko.

In the first, Ifrán was once again assisted by Núñez and this time the Uruguayan missed the target (73’). Two minutes later the Galicians had a double chance that ended with Núñez releasing a drilling and crossed shot that missed the far post by inches. The final opportunity for the locals was a corner-kick in which Lopo headed the ball out (88’).

Solid game by a Deportivo before a poor rival that barely disturbed the local defense. Los Blanquiazules only needed to seize an error at the start of the game to claim the lead, later Fernando Vázquez made the changes and it worked out as they starred the second goal.

The victory leaves Depor at the top of the standings for one more week, maintaining the 6-point advantage over the third place. On next Sunday the Galicians face a tough challenge as they visit RCD Mallorca (Son Moix, 12h00 CET).
