REVIEW: MALLORCA 0 - DEPORTIVO 0 (LIGA)

10 Sep 2006
Deportivo saved a point in its liga visit to Mallorca. It was a boring game without too many chances to score for both sides. The best news for Depor was the debut of Filipe. Meanwhile, Ibagaza played his first liga match with the shirt of Mallorca. The Galicians now have four points and occupies the sixth place in the table.

BEFORE THE GAME
As was expected, Coach Caparr??s sent a defensive lineup with three pivotes (Duscher, Coloccini and Sergio) and without a striker. Juan Rodr?guez had the responsibility of the goals. In Mallorca, Manzano started with Arango and Maxi L??pez upfront, while Ibagaza and Pisculichi were out of the starting lineup.

FIRST HALF
The first half was really boring for the fans attending to the Ono Estadi. Both clubs were more worried in defending their own net than in trying to reach the victory. The best man of the local side was Jon??s Guti?©rrez, the Argentinean made a good effort on the right wing while Sergio Ballesteros played very well in the defensive sector.

There were only two clear occasions to score during the first 45 minutes of the game, the first one was for Arango at minute 15th with a shot that was deflected by the defenders. The second one was for the visitors,  Coloccini passed to Juan Rodr?guez, but goalkeeper Prats reached the ball first (41'). Only two occasions in 45 minutes, a demonstration of the lack of effectiveness on both striking zones.

SECOND HALF
It was the same story that happened during the first half, both teams were fighting in midfield and the chances to score didn't appear. The entrance of Ariel Ibagaza changed the arguments, the Argentinean took control of the actions and the game was more fluid. But it was Depor who was near to score with a long-distance shot made by Sergio. The effort was deflected by Prats with his nails (65').

It was the last opportunity for Deportivo although that one minute later, Bodipo replaced Riki. Mallorca searched the victory with more will during the last minutes. The efforts of the local team were always lead by Ibagaza, one of his passes reached Maxi L??pez at minute 70, but the striker sent the ball out. Caparr??s tried to secure the draw and he made his last two chances during the last six minutes of the match. One of them was Filipe who made his liga debut with Deportivo.

AFTER THE MATCH
It's the first scoreless draw for Deportivo in la liga. Both teams still undefeated in two games, Mallorca accumulates two points and the Galicians have four in their count. Depor is sixth in the table at this point, the only four teams that have conquered two wins after two games are Barcelona, Sevilla, Valencia and Getafe. On the next Saturday, Deportivo will receive Villarreal, a team that only have one point after suffering a 0-1 against Recreativo at the Madrigal.
