Depor’s coach believes that his team lacked concentration in the last match of the season and he was also surprised with the errors committed at defense, while there were some complains about the heat.

Fernando Vázquez said that he knew it was going to be difficult to keep the level of last week, “I want firstly to congratulate Girona for the permanence, also Lugo, a team from my land plus everyone else that clinched their goals. I said it during the week: it was a complicate game, tough, because we were coming after giving everything against Jaén, reaching the peak in terms of tension and in this game evidently there were no emotional reasons to hold on. You expect to be professional respecting the competition and Girona itself.”

The Galician coach was convinced that his team lacked concentration, “The team missed concentration in the first half and committed errors in the goals. I remember that no one scored three goals against us during the season [he forgot the 0-3 loss Vs. SD Ponferradina]. I don’t know why we conceded too many errors at defense, maybe it had to do with the lack of tension and concentration. We did our best, sincerely.”

Finally, Vázquez talked of the rival, “I liked the Girona of the first round game at the Riazor; I liked how their played. What happens is that the situation was complicated in this league. They started to go down and it seemed they were far from the permanence, but with hard work and hope, plus the great players they have, it was able to clinch the permanence. Today they were a little tense at the beginning of the game, but little by little they surpassed the problem.”

Among the players, only Juan Carlos was interviewed by Radio Galega; he admitted that the result was fair, “They were playing for their life and we were coming from clinching the promotion. We were hoping to end first and tried to do our best. We weren’t fine in the second part and the result was fair. We dominated and controlled the game at the beginning of the second part, but after that they pressed and attacked. We tried to do the same things than the first half, but were already tired and it was very hot, so they were superior in the second half.”

“Truly the level was lower after this week’s acts; we were coming after a long week with several things happening off the pitch, but I believe we tried to achieve the victory and must recognize the merits of the rival. It was a long season, it started on July 5, more than eleven months of training and we clinched the goal. It was a suffered season and we deserve the rest.” The Galician playmaker added.

At Girona FC, Pablo Machín was explaining how he motivated his players, “It was important to see the players displaying their football, but the pressure, the heat… everything was more complicated. The motivation was already there, it abounds in these games. I just had to tell them: believe in the victory and gave everything. And we achieve it.”

He also announced his probably continuity at the club, “I was taught to be grateful with the opportunities and the people that trust me. Things should be really bad to not see me staying. I am content at Girona. Thanks to everyone, Girona have reached the salvation.”
