It’s time to revisit the performance of Deportivo’s players during the league season that has ended. This third part presents the analysis of the six wingers that performed for Deportivo during the campaign 2013/14

The weakest position at Deportivo, the exit of Bruno Gama left the team without natural wingers and Fernando Vázquez struggled to find players for these functions; actually the best wingers on the season where the ones performing like playmakers,. There were winter signings for these positions, but Salomão only played for six games after suffering a serious injury. The following is the summary of the performance by the six wingers that played for Depor during the season:

Bruno Gama –Missed- (88 minutes in liga) He only played in the opening matchday against UD Las Palmas and later was transferred to Ukraine due to the problems to fit the salary cap. His absence was the key to understand why Depor missed depth and width on the wings throughout the league tournament; the true is that Fernando Vázquez never found a real winger to fit his shoes.

Antonio Núñez –Discrete- (810) The Madrilenian was the first choice signed in order to cover the problems on the wings, and the true is that he didn’t fulfill the expectations; he arrived unfit and with the transfer market already closed, so it was hard for him to be plugged into the dynamic of the club. He finally became a starter at the end of the first round (matchday 19), but it only lasted five matchdays as the winter signings pulled him down. Núñez was only twice a starter since February and, despite providing four assists, he never gave the impression of adding anything to the team.

Diogo Salomão –Injured- (364) His signing during the winter window brought hope among the fans, because Deportivo finally recovered the depth on the left wing missed during this season. The Portuguese scored once (2-1 Vs. CE Sabadell CF, matchday 24) and became the most important player in attack, but he only lasted six games, because her suffered a serious knee injury in the game against Hércules CF (matchday 28). A pity as Salomão was called to make great things with Depor.

Rudy –Loose cannon- (922) A supposed left winger that was going to add depth to the attacking line, but Fernando Vázquez never found a spot for him. The Portuguese was tested in both wings and even in the playmaking function without positive results. He’s a skillful player, but wasn’t tactically prepared to know the difference between making a quick pass or to carry the ball on, which led him to commit errors and lose the ball pretty easily. During the winter window he was loaned to CF Os Belenenses, but only played five games there.

Ibrahim Sissoko –Wild- (1,003) Mocked for been “fat” at the moment of his arrival during the winter window, and then nobody was laughing at him by the end of the season after becoming into the most important player in attack. The Ivorian man arrived with the label of been a skillful right winger, it turned to be a great playmaker too, though Vázquez constantly put him to perform on the right wing. The fans got in love with him due to his kinky hairdo and also for his eccentric individual plays, which often converted him into a crucial player up front. He was an undisputed starter in 11 of the last 12 games and just missed the closing game against Girona FC due to a knock.

Jesús Cañizares ‘Cañi’ –Unprepared-  (0) He was the first signing of the season for Fabril and had the privilege to train during the whole pre-season with the first team. The As Pontes-born winger didn’t play in liga, but had the chance to perform in both games in Copa Del Rey. Against Córdoba CF he was a starter and performed for 60 minutes, showed good skills, but also that he was unprepared to compete at the highest level. He later played for 10 minutes against Real Jaén. In 2014, the 22.year-old winger disappeared from the coach’s plans and also from Fabril’s lineups.
