José Carlos underwent the medicals on Monday and the club wasn’t convinced with his current status. He confirmed to reporters that he isn’t totally recovered from his knee injury and the club will now allow his arrival to Depor’s first team.

José Carlos Fernández was supposed to be the second signing for Depor ahead of the Primera season 2014/15. The player underwent the medicals on Monday and was going to sign a one-year contract  However the operation was halted after the scans confirmed that the playmaker still need one full month to recover from the knee injury sustained in April.

Beyond that, the club fears that José Carlos won’t be fit to play for the start in liga, which brought doubts about the convenience of signing the player. In the end the doctors gave the okay, but not coach Fernando Vázquez, who had a meeting with president Tino Fernández in order to discuss the situation.

In the end the club and the player agreed that it isn’t the right moment to see him signing for the club and a press clip was released. Deportivo explained that the reason why the singing wasn’t approved is because the player won’t be available for July 14, day in which the pre-season of the first team will begin.

The playmaker/winger suffered a serious knee injury during the first matchday of the season 2013/14; he spent six months on the sidelines and returned to play in March, but suffered a relapse in the visit to Real Madrid and never returned to play again for Rayo Vallecano.

Before the signing was rejected, José Carlos talked to reporters and admitted that he isn’t physically prepared to begin the pre-season with Depor’s first team, “After been stopped for one year I’m not physically prepared. I must start working sidelined and little by little will be joining the group. Right now I am in the recovery process, but hope to be fine for the beginning of the season.”
