A flat Deportivo was defeated by a much mature Celta. There were too many errors at the back zone. Fariña was the leader again, but the team fell down after the Argentine man was replaced at half-time.

Coach Víctor Fernández presented a 4-1-4-1 formation for the game, with men at the door out like Javier Arizmendi and Diego Seoane performing as starters. Fabricio was the goalkeeper, Seoane covered the right side of the defense, Canella performed on the left, while Álex Bergantiños and Insua were the centre-backs.

Cezary Wilk was the lonely pivote, Juan Carlos and Luis Fariña were the playmakers, Isaac Cuenca attacked from the right wing, Arizmendi did it from the left and Toché was the central attacker.

At RC Celta, coach Eduardo Berizzo presented a strong lineup; a 4-3-3 draw with the major part of the starters that should be playing in Liga. Krohn-Dehlii, Fabián Orellana, Nolito and new signing Joaquín Larrivey were the references up front. This match was played as part of the first trophy organized by the Galician federation in favour of the academy teams in the region.

Deportivo demonstrated that it isn’t ready yet to debut at Primera. On Wednesday’s night it was defeated by a much mature and accurate RC Celta, team that looked more precise up front. Depor’s defense controlled the attacks using the offside trap, but the errors in the passes cost the match. Fariña was the best player until been replacing at half-time, after that Depor missed a reference upfront.

Celta had the initiative since the kick-off; with Depor waiting at the back trying to release the counterattack. At minute 6, Juan Carlos lost the ball inside the area, but Nolito couldn’t solve the play before the pressure from Álex.

At minute 15, Larrivey beat the offside trap and assisted Nolito, but Fabricio was there to block the move. The Canarian keeper was the best player in the first half thanks to his saves. Juan Carlos was missing a lot of passes, while Fariña was pretty accurate and was the leading force in attack.

Depor was the side that completed the first shot on target in the game; it was a long-range attempt by Wilk that was an easy catch for goalie Sergio Álvarez (17’). Depor’s defense was looking nervous and had problems in the output of the ball, at minute 20, Juan Carlos lost the ball at the edge of the area and Krohn-Dehlii regain it to release a shot that was stopped by Fabricio. Three minutes later Larrivey missed the target after heading a cross coming from the right.

The main opportunity for Depor in the first half came at minute 32; Fariña led the counterattack and assisted Cuenca on the left wing, then he released a drilling cross that Toché met inside the box when the striker was backwards the goal and his attempt was saved by Sergio.

The first half ended with a chance for Depor and two for Celta. First, Cuenca made a great play and assisted Canella, who released a cross from the right that Wilk sent into the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside (41’). Then Larrivey headed out a new cross from the right (43’), while Orellana missed the target with a crossed shot (44’).

For the second half, Víctor Fernández switched the draw into a 4-2-3-1 and made seven substitutions.  Lux, Laure, Lopo, Luisinho, Cavaleiro, José Rodriguez and Juan Domínguez entered the game and Celta scored the first goal three minutes after the kick-off. Juan Dominguez made a bad pass searching for Insua, Nolito intercepted the ball and scored through an accurate drilling attempt.

Two minutes later Luisinho protested a penalty after been tackled from behind. Depor continued to have problems with the output of the ball, at minute 55, Cavaleiro lost the ball at the edge of the area and again Nolito attempted with a drilling shot, this time Lux made the save.

Depor didn’t know how to respond after the goal and the team was unable to create scoring opportunities. Cavaleiro was losing the ball pretty easily and  the exit of Fariña at half-time was noticed. Then Víctor allowed the entry of Marcos Remeseiro and Borja Bastón replacing Wilk and Toché.

At minute 70, Krohn-Dehlii sent the ball over the crossbar from the edge of the area.  And three minutes later Los Celestes scored the second goal, it was a big collective play in which Orellana made an accurate pass  into the path of Larrivey, who just pushed the ball in from close range.

The game was over after the goal, though Cavaleiro had a couple of chances, first with a direct free-kick in which he smashed the ball into the wall and later after the Portuguese man failed to collect a long pass inside the box (77’). Miguel Cardoso entered to play the last ten minutes and he had the last chance in the game with a low shot that missed the target (87’).
