DIAKITÉ SIGNS FOR DEPOR

03 Sep 2014
French defender Modibo Diakité is the twelfth and last summer signing ahead of the Primera season 2014/15. He’s a centre-back that arrives as a free agent after rescinding his contract with Sunderland AFC.

Modibo Diakité signed for Deportivo on Tuesday. It’s the twelfth and last summer signing of Depor and is closing the squad for the season 2014/15. The signing was made after the transfer deadline, but was possible as the French player was already a free agent after rescinding his contract with Sunderland AFC. The LFP allows the inscription of free agents after the deadline, something Depor already did before like the case of Antonio Núñez on last season.

The 27-year-old player is a centre-back that can also perform as a right-back. The Frenchmen is well-known for his stage as SS Lazio, last season he signed for Sunderland AFC, but was sent back to Italy at the end of the campaign as he was loaned to ACF Fiorentina.

Within the last month he has been negotiating the termination of his contract with the Premier League club and he was linked with a return to Serie A, more specifically he was linked with Genoa CFC, UC Sampdoria and even a possible return to ACF Fiorentina. In the end he’s signing a one-year contract with the club. His arrival is expected for today and should be presented on Thursday.
