THE BIGGEST HOME DEFEATS FOR DEPOR

22 Sep 2014
For the first time in its centennial history, RC Deportivo La Coruña conceded eight goals in one single game played at the Riazor, though the biggest losing margin is from sixty years ago.

Catastrophic result for Deportivo. The 2-8 loss against Real Madrid means a heavy burden that will enter into the books of records, just like the eighteen years that the Madrilenians spent without winning a game at the Riazor. It’s the worst home defeat for Depor during this century and the second worst in all the official competitions.

And it’s that, for the first time in more than one hundred years, Deportivo allowed eight goals in one single game playing at the Riazor. Still, the biggest losing margin remains to be the 0-7 loss of the Primera season 1955/56 hosting FC Barcelona. In other six home defeats playing in a league competition, Depor allowed six goals, while in other four it allowed five, including the 4-5 loss against FC Barcelona of two year ago.

In Copa Del Rey, Depor conceded four goals in four different opportunities, though all of them took place more than fifty years ago. The more recent was a 2-4 defeat against Valencia CF (May 20, 1944). More recently, Depor suffered two big losses playing in European competitions: the 0-5 against AS Monaco and the 0-4 against AC Milan, both matches playing for the UEFA Champions League
