Tense week with all the attention focused in the background after four straight defeats in liga. Postiga just started to train with the group. Juan Dominguez & Cuenca remain out, while Lux and Canella picked injuries.

Normally the attention in midweek is focused in the players going in and out of the injury room plus the academy members that train with the first team, but this has been a special week, not only for the international break, but for the tension surrounding Deportivo after suffering four straight defeats in la liga. So the media was especially receptive to report all the movements made around the first team.

In this sense there was a special attention to report the conversations had between coach Víctor Fernández and some of his players, mainly Manuel Pablo and Lucas Pérez, both had a meeting with the coach in the middle of Tuesday’s session. On that same day it was reported the visits to Abegondo of sporting directors Richard Barral and Ernesto Bello, though both always visit the team at least once in the week. The novelties were the moves of the president and his sporting advisor, plus the press conferences by the players.

The club carefully tried to release the pressure, firstly only the players with more experience at the club addressed the media [the club didn’t allow interviews]. So, it wasn’t an accident that only Laure and Álex Bergantiños addressed the media after the game against Sevilla CF then, during the week, Lux and Manuel Pablo were the first men that faced the journalists and both admitted the players’ sins before the cameras. It was until Friday that a new arrival, Juanfran, was cleared to talk and he also admitted the errors in recent weeks. José Rodríguez was the other new face that talked to reporters (Saturday).

Later the club tried to calm the fans through the officials, in this sense president Tino Fernández granted two interviews, first at Radio Onda Cero and later at Radio Cadena Cope. Sporting advisor Fernando Vidal was also busy with the media, first conceding an interview to La Voz de Galicia and later talking to Radio Cadena Ser.

Víctor Fernández always concede a midweek interview during an international break, and this time it wasn’t the exception, with the novelty that it was his longest press conference since landing at Deportivo -31 minutes- He also spent the time analyzing the errors with the players, as example on Wednesday he locked the goalkeepers and the whole defensive line in the video room in order to re-watch the goals conceded until now. So, the week left the impression of have been a “group therapy” for Deportivo.

Lux picked a finger sprain and trained apart together with Lucas (Thursday)

Salomão continued with his evolution during the week

There was the rumour that Diakité wanted to leave the club, but it wasn’t true

Víctor Fernández has been under a lot of pressure during the week

Wednesday’s session took place in the middle of the heavy rain

On Friday the team trained at the Riazor

On next weekend Deportivo face the meeting against Valencia CF and the injuries continue to be the main problem for Víctor Fernández, to the point that the friendly game against SD Órdenes was suspended. Instead the coach mixed physical exercises and some tactical tests during the training sessions.

The doctors expect that, by the end of next week, the only player out of action would be winger Diogo Salomão (knee); he’s already completing all the exercises with the team, but won’t be granted to play until November. However, the coach said during his press conference that he isn’t sure if everybody will be available.

The club will assess the situation of Pablo Insua (muscle) after he returns from the concentration with U-21 Spain. The other two players on international duties, attacker Iván Cavaleiro and midfielder Haris Medunjanin, should return on Wednesday.

Winger Isaac Cuenca (Ischialgia), plus striker Hélder Postiga and centre midfielder Juan Dominguez (both hamstring) have trained apart on this week, only Postiga was allowed to complete part of the session with the group during Saturday’s session.

Juan Dominguez will probably need one more week after what the coach said on Thursday, It’s possible that of the five players that are injured we will recover four of them. I believe Juan Dominguez won’t be available against Valencia.”

Besides, three players suffered physical problems at the end of the week: goalkeeper German Lux (finger sprain), left-back Roberto Canella (hamstring) and right-back Diego Seoane (pharyngotonsillitis). The three aren’t serious cases and their condition will be assess until next week. Therefore it is uncertain at this point if the coach will have 24 players available for the next game, which is the target of the medical staff.

Finally, there was presence of the academy during the trainings of the first team, it was on Friday as the squad trained at the Riazor. Five players from Juvenil A were the ones training with the senior team: winger Roi Peiteado, left-back Álvaro Naveira, plus midfielders Alberto Leira, Aarón Sánchez and Miguel Real. The reason to pick players from Juvenil A was that Depor B had a league match on Saturday and the coach didn’t want to disturb their preparation. Still, Fabril's left-back Jorge Fernández trained with the first team too as he was gong to be a substitute on Saturday.
