Depor search to continue showing the same defensive strength of the last two games; Juan Dominguez is back and will be a starter while Lucas Pérez is out of the match. Getafe is having problems to score goals.

Deportivo have been unable to defeat Getafe CF during the last five games played at the Riazor. Within the period there were four draws and one victory for the Madrilenian outfit. The last time the Galicians defeated this rival playing at home was during the Primera season 2006/07 with a goal scored by Antonio Barragán (1-0, March 18, 2007).

Since that day Deportivo have clinched two wins facing Getafe, but both of them playing at the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum, the most recent one was a 0-2 on the campaign 2009/10 with goals scored by Mista and Filipe Luis (November 07, 2009)

A curiosity is that Depor have always scored goals in the home meetings against Getafe playing in a league or cup competition (13 in 9 matches played at the Riazor, including one for Copa Del Rey). The Madrilenians represent one of the ten clubs against whom Depor have always scored at the Riazor during official matches (at least five games). The other nine clubs are: Atlético Madrid B, Barcelona B, Barakaldo CF, Cádiz CF, Cartagena CF, SD Compostela, Condal, UP Langreo and Malaga CF.

In order to survive in la liga it is very important to not concede goals, something that Depor weren’t doing in this start of season. But the picture has changed a lot at Deportivo’s defense after the disastrous performances before Real Madrid and Sevilla CF, matches in which the Galician outfit allowed twelve goals, which pulled the team to be the worst defense at Primera.

Now Depor is dragging two straight matches without allowing goals. In case of clinching a new clean sheet it will be the first time in almost five years in which Deportivo chain three straight games without leaking goals playing at Primera División (January 2010 against Valencia CF, Real Zaragoza and CA Osasuna).

However, it can be a mirage too, after all Deportivo were very lucky to not concede goals against RCD Espanyol.  Centre-back Pablo Insua admitted that the team didn’t match the same performance and was inviting to recall the past game against Valencia CF, ”We are more solid than before, though we had some luck in the previous game. We must remain with the defensive performance had against Valencia rather than the other day, because we conceded clear opportunities that normally we cannot allow. The team is moving back in the correct way, people up front are working at the top and that makes things easier for the defenders.”

The Galician defender was also warning that Getafe is meaning a new challenge for the defense, ”Getafe have other kind of strikers, with more mobility and that’s very dangerous. We must be focused.  I believe their players are quality ones, besides they have some interesting signings like Yoda. It’s a dangerous team, with great players and things are working for them.”

New challenge or not, coach Víctor Fernández  isn’t thinking in making changes in the defensive sector, in this sense Fabricio Agosto covers the goal, Juanfran Moreno performs at the right side, Luisinho does it in the left, while the central positions are for Insua and Brazilian Sidnei Rechel.

The changes are taking place at midfield and attack. Juan Dominguez returns in order to perform as a playmaker. Cezary Wilk and Haris Medunjanin are the centre midfielders. Isaac Cuenca attacks from the right wing, Luis Fariña does it from the left and Iván Cavaleiro is the central attacker.

Lucas Pérez wasn’t picked for the game as he still dragging the effects from the knee knock suffered on Sunday; the other players at the injury room are Diogo Salomão and Manuel Pablo. Once again the coach surprised with the roster for the game, because Laure, José Rodriguez and Modibo Diakité weren’t included in the list for the game.  The first two had been normal participants on the season. Instead Albert Lopo and Roberto Canella were called back.

Postiga hasn’t scored since joining Depor; he was saying that he isn’t anxious for it, ”When I arrived the only think that I promised was to help the team to achieve the objective. And if later I can help scoring goals… but off course I will give my best, but to score goals is a complement. Until now it has been a year 2014 to forget, but I’m content for returning to play.”

Finally, Luisinho said that Depor must win this game, "We must win, because we play at home and because Getafe is a direct rival. We are expecting for a tough match. We have worked at the top during this week, which was short as we play on Friday, but we are ready to add the three points.”

List of picked players (18): Lux, Fabricio (goalkeepers); Lopo, Juanfran, Canella, Insua, Sidnei, Luisinho (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Juan Dominguez, Juan Carlos, Medunjanin, Wilk, Fariña, Cuenca (midfielders); Postiga, Cavaleiro & Toché (strikers)

The Madrilenians are facing a lot of offensive problems lately; within their last two years the offensive marks were poor. Last season they secured the permanence until the last matchday and the problem was always the lack of goals. They never had a determinant striker, actually they top-scorers were two wingers: Ángel Lafita and Pedro León, both scoring seven goals in the competition. In the end they only scored 35 goals in 38 matchdays, the fourth lowest mark at Primera.

The situation is repeated for the current campaign. After nine matchdays they present the second lowest mark in the league (6 goals) and continue to lack a strong figure in attack as the four strikers at the squad have only scored three times. For this reason coach Cosmin Contra has decided to test alternatives, especially after striker Álvaro Vázquez stepped down with a shoulder injury. Actually, Babá Diawara is the only available striker for the game and the Senegalese isn’t totally fit to play as he has faced muscle problems.

The main alternative tested was to relocate ex-Depor Lafita as a false nine; the Aragonian man has played there in two of the last three games and will do it again facing his former club. He was commenting the issue during the week, ”It’s a different position, but I must get used to it due to the circumstances lived by the team. I try to adapt as soon as possible in order to help the team.”

But Contra has went beyond that and also switched the second line in attack, within the last two games he sent to the bench Pablo Sarabia and Diego Castro opening a spot for Croatian Jorge Sammir and Colombian Fredy Hinestroza. The team remains scoreless, but Contra has liked the lineup, especially after the effort done before champions Atlético Madrid.

Against Deportivo is predicted a 4-2-3-1 draw. There are changes at defense due to some important casualties. Vicente Guaita is the starting keeper, ex-Atlético Juan Valera sustained a muscle injury and is out of the game, therefore Álvaro Arroyo covers the right-back position, while Sergio Escudero, who was close to join Depor two years ago, performs on the left side. With captain Alexis Ruano suspended for the game (banned for four games after punching Mandžukić), Brazilian Naldo Gomes steps in and joins Uruguayan Emiliano Velázquez at the centre of the defense.

Ex-Depor Míchel Herrero is fit to play and takes the spot of another ex-Deportivo man, Juan Rodríguez, playing alongside Algerian Mehdi Lacen at midfield. Sammir is the playmaker, Hinestroza attacks from the left wing, Lafita is the false nine and Karim Yoda is the right winger. The Frenchman is one of the positive news on this season after scoring twice and providing one assist so far.

Míchel talked before the game and was warning about Deportivo, ”I’m willing to play. The knee needed time for the recovery and to reabsorb the liquid. I’m 100% ready to play. They are a promoted team that has made a lot of signings. They battled against Valencia and defeated them, so you need to be careful with this team, because they have young footballers with a bright future.”

List of picked players (18):  Codina, Guaita (goalkeepers); Roberto Lago, Velázquez; Naldo, Arroyo, Escudero, Vigaray (defenders); Sammir, Lafita, Lacen, Sarabia, Yoda, Diego Castro, Míchel, Juan Rodríguez,  Freddy (midfielders) & Babá (attacker).

Deportivo: (4-2-3-1) Fabricio – Juanfran, Sidnei, Insua, Luisinho – Wilk, Medunjanin – Cuenca, Juan Dominguez, Fariña – Cavaleiro.
Getafe:(4-2-3-1) Guaita – Arroyo, Velázquez, Naldo, Escudero – Míchel, Lacen – Yoda, Sammir, Hinestroza - Lafita
