VÍCTOR FERNÁNDEZ VS COSMIN CONTRA

31 Oct 2014
Depor’s coach barely talked of the game. He was feeling sorry for the casualty of Lucas, while welcomed the return of Juan Dominguez & Canella. The coach of Getafe is hoping to not meet the same Deportivo that trashed Valencia.

Cosmin Marius Contra is a famous Romanian retired footballer that made his career between the 1990’s and the first decade of this century. He played as a right-back in several famous clubs like Atlético Madrid and AC Milan, also at Getafe CF.

With Romania, Contra made 73 international appearances and took part of the UEFA Euro 2000 and 2008 tournaments. He retired in 2011 and by the time he was player and, at the same time, coach of the club from his hometown, FC Timișoara He had a briefly experience as a Segunda B manager at Fuenlabrada CF, later returned to Romania in order to coach Petrolul Ploiești, over there he won the national Cup which meant to qualify to the Europa League.

Early on this year, he returned to Spain in order to replace Luis García at Getafe CF, the Madrilenian outfit was having a negative run and Contra managed to save the team in the last matchday of the season 2013/14 with a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano. This is his first meeting against Víctor Fernández.

VÍCTOR FERNÁNDEZ
It was a really short press conference by Depor’s coach. He was in a hurry after the team trained on Thursday’s afternoon at Abegondo. He only talked for nine minutes with reporters and practically didn’t explain too much of what to expect from the game.

The Aragonian coach started feeling sorry for missing the presence of Lucas Pérez, “He is one of the players that needs more continuity and work, first because he’s physically short, and later because he needs competition after only playing for 55 minutes against Valencia and 18 against Espanyol. I'm feeling screwed for not having Lucas, but logically we have solutions.”

At least he was welcoming the returns of Juan Dominguez and Roberto Canella, “The good news is that Juan [Dominguez] and Canella are available. Last week he [Juan Domínguez] trained at the top and needed to regain the shape. This week I saw that he was better. The same goes with Roberto. The bad news of Lucas is compensated with the presence of Juan Dominguez and Canella. Both are much better now.”

Fernández was emphasizing the importance of a victory, “It’s very important to us, it means to multiply the value of the draw had against Espanyol. We need a positive result; we need to win and am convinced that we will have the support of the fans. The Riazor will tremble like it happened against Valencia. We have made very good training sessions, the few we had as only four days have passed from last game.”

About the rival, Getafe CF, he commented that, “It’s a dangerous team up front, a well-structured team despite the casualties from last season.  I’m convinced it’s going to be a difficult game as we are facing a dangerous rival.”

Finally, Víctor explained the reason that led to see Manuel Pablo acting as an assistant coach, "I wanted to sign a second coach when I landed here, but the surprise was that there was no money. I suggested the names of Manuel Pablo and Richard Barral, but you already know that Barral is now fully involved in the chart of the club. So, I was thinking of giving the option to Manuel Pablo. We will see what happens with Manuel Pablo on June 30. I will also think if I will bring another option for the job."

CONTRA
Getafe’s coach addressed the media on Thursday’s noon; he was commenting the problems at defense with the casualties of Valera and Alexis, “We were lucky as Arroyo is recovered. Naldo already played, so I trust in the defense that will play tomorrow at the Riazor. I haven’t read the book for the sanctions, but if the action of Alexis is considered as aggression, then the ban should be for four or five games. We will miss him for four games and it will be an important casualty for us.”

“Naldo and Velazquez played together the day of Córdoba, so I have plenty of confidence on them. Naldo is a player with experience and has demonstrated that he could be fine. I have confidence that Arroyo and Naldo will make a good job. There are nineteen field players at the team and everybody will enjoy of minutes.” He added.

The Romanian trainer hinted that there won’t be changes apart from the forced substitutions at defense, “I believe the team is working pretty well, everyone is training at the top and, if I make other changes tomorrow, then surely they will do a great job. I’m sure about it. For now the ones entering are replacing the players that are injured and suspended, but in a general sense I can say that we’ll keep the same block that has been playing lately.”

He confessed that striker Babá Diawara isn’t totally fit to play despite been included in the roster for the game, “Babá is following a fixed process. We made a decision one week ago together with the doctors: he will be working apart and will join the group one day before the games, this in order to test him. He isn’t ready to be a starter, but is evolving. We are hopeful that after the international break he will be recovered. Until then we cannot force him as we will be in big problems if he suffers a new muscle injury.”

Despite the last setback against Atlético, the coach is satisfied with the latest performance of the team, “We made a nice game before the champion of la liga. I’m really proud of what the lads did and have asked for the same attitude in any game of the season. If we can keep the same attitude then surely we will win games. We must have the same mentality and thus I’m sure we will win a lot of games.”

Finally, Contra warned about Cavaleiro and hopes to not meet the same Depor that faced Valencia, “We know Deportivo is a complicate rival, especially at home. We know they have added four of the last six points and defeated Valencia 3-0- They have a refreshed image. The change made by Víctor using Cavaleiro as a centre forward is creating a lot of damage. He’s a player that can harm us in the counterattack. If we look at the game against Valencia then we are already screwed, because truly they made a great game. They didn’t allow Valencia to breathe and were aggressive. They didn’t allow them to play. I just hope they won’t be living one of those days, because if not then it will be really hard to win over there. Anyway, we are traveling there knowing that we have been fine within the last five games, with enough confidence and showing an important change.”
