Víctor Fernández faced big problems to prepare the game due to the injuries. The team has been training during the week without a centre forward. However several of the men could be back. Moyes has been focusing the attention.

The injuries continue striking Deportivo ahead of the home meeting against Real Sociedad (Riazor, Saturday, 22h00 CET). Up to five players have been dragging physical problems during the week: left-back Roberto Canella (Soleus), playmaker Luis Fariña (stress fracture), winger Lucas Pérez (knee) plus strikers Toché (Soleus) and Iván Cavaleiro (groin).

Four of these five players are attackers, which brought a lot of problems to coach Víctor Fernández. Actually, the three strikers at the team skipped the first two training sessions. This since Toché and Cavaleiro were out injured and Hélder Postiga was concentrated with Portugal’s national team. For this reason the coach picked three offensive players from Depor B in order to fill up the gaps: wingers Miguel Cardoso and Cañi, plus striker Dani Iglesias.

Portuguese Postiga will join the trainings on Thursday, but he’s suspended after been sent off against Córdoba CF. The club will know today if the appeal is accepted, though it’s highly probable that it will be rejected. The other player in international duties, midfielder Haris Medunjanin, joined the trainings on Tuesday.

The good news is that on Wednesday some of the men were back with the group. The session took place behind closed doors at the Riazor. Cavaleiro, Fariña and Toché were training without problems and could be available for the weekend. It will depend on the doctor’s opinion. Lucas will make a test on Thursday, so for now the only player already ruled out of Saturday’s game is Canella.

Centre-back Pablo Insua picked a muscle injury on his right leg during the game with Getafe CF and skipped the meeting with Córdoba CF. He joined the trainings on Monday and will be available for the match against the Basques.  Playmaker Juan Carlos picked a knock on Tuesday, but the day after he was training without problems.

At Real Sociedad, all eyes are upon new coach David Moyes. The Scottish replaced Jagoba Arrasate and will debut at the Riazor. He started to direct the trainings on this week, though always with the help of Asier Santana and Imanol Alguacil, both coaches of the B squad. He doesn’t speak Spanish and his translator is another coach at the club, Erik Bretos.

The team is coming after a refreshing 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid, match in which, for the first time on the season, there were no casualties for injury reasons. However, the physical problems reappeared on this week, starting with the case of midfielder Mikel González, who ended at the hospital with a pharyngeal infection.  He will surely miss the game against Depor.

Another midfielder, David Zurutuza, is doubtful for the game with a knee problem. Centre-back Iñigo Martínez (thigh), midfielder Esteban Granero (thigh) and playmaker Xabi Prieto (illness) didn’t train at the beginning of the week, but they will be available for the trip to the Riazor.

Finally, Real Sociedad had three players on international duties: centre-back Alexander Callens (Peru), plus strikers Carlos Vela (Mexico) and Alfred Finnbogason (Island). Vela will join the trainings on Thursday, while the other two are already training with the first team.
