Busy week for Deportivo; the team is now in relegation and in a matter of seven days it has to face three games and two outfits battling at the top of the standings. At least Victor Fernández is only having three casualties.

Deportivo are in relegation after the results of the past weekend; now the team faces a busy week as the Copa Del Rey is launched for the Primera outfits. On Sunday the Galicians face one of the toughest visits on the season: Atlético Madrid (Vicente Calderón stadium, 12h00 CET).

Only three days later Malaga CF visit the Riazor for the first-leg in Copa (20h00 CET), meeting that will be repeated on next Saturday, but this time playing for la liga. Both rivals are targeting the first positions and it means tough tasks for a team that’s in relegation for the second time on the season.

Coach Víctor Fernández is currently having three casualties at his team. First to all centre-back Albert Lopo is suspended in liga after picking the fifth yellow card in the past meeting with Real Sociedad. The Catalan defender will be available for both matches against Malaga CF.

The other two players will surely miss the game with Atlético and the first meeting with the Andalusians, and are already doubtful for the match in liga with Malaga CF: winger Lucas Pérez (knee) and playmaker Luis Fariña (Stress Fracture).

Lucas Pérez joined the group on Tuesday’s training, but one day later he didn’t complete the session after feeling issues on his left knee. The scans made by the doctors determined that the concussion suffered three weeks ago is limiting the movement of the knee, so the player will remain off and could return to work until the end of next week.

In the case of Fariña, he remains training apart and could join the group until the end of next week. In the best of the cases the Argentine player could be available for the second game with Malaga CF. Meanwhile, Left-back Roberto Canella is already recovered from his Soleus injury and is training with the team, so he’s available for the coach.

Left winger Diogo Salomão seems ready to debut after been totally recovered from his knee injury, it’s expected that he could be picked for the Copa game and it’s even rumored that the coach is thinking of picking him for this Sunday. It still to be seen if Víctor will rely in Fabril’s players for the Copa game, on this week only keeper David Gómez trained with the first team.

At Atlético Madrid, the team played on Wednesday in Champions League hosting Olympiacos FC (4-0 win). Coach Diego Simeone presented the same lineup that defeated Malaga CF only four days before (3-1). The only novelty was the presence of Raúl García replacing winger Antoine Griezmann, so sort or less it can be said that El Cholo already found a lineup.

There will be novelties against Deportivo though, midfielder Gabi was sent off during the clash against Malaga CF and is suspended for the meeting, while Portuguese Tiago Mendes picked a muscle problem during the Champions League clash. He joined the trainings on Thursday and seems to be fine, but the coach could rest him on Sunday.

Simeone also has to assess the possibility to make changes taking in mind that there are Copa games scheduled for midweek. Still, it’s expected that he will present a strong lineup before Depor. The only casualty for injury reasons confirmed until this point is centre-back João Miranda, who’s out until the middle of December dragging a hamstring injury. Attacker Ángel Correa joined the trainings this week after a heart surgery, he still has to gain a spot before been inscribed during the winter window.

At Malaga CF, the team just cut a winning streak of five straight games, precisely losing before Atlético Madrid, but coach Javi Gracia is concern with the large list of casualties at his team. Four players will surely miss the clash with Depor and these aren’t new problems to him. So far on the season four of his men already needed a surgery, the last one was striker Juanmi, who broke his arm during the week and will be sidelined until January.

Meanwhile attacker Nordin Amrabat picked a stress fracture at the beginning of November when he was playing for Morocco. He has been training apart and there’s a slight chance he could be available for the games with Deportivo, though it will be risky. These two men are important for the team as together have scored six goals (three for each player).

The other three players that have needed surgery are offensive midfielder Rafa de Vicente, centre-back Roberto Chen (both ACL) and centre-back/defensive midfielder Flávio Ferreira (hernia). These three men will return until next year. Meanwhile centre midfielder Fernando Tissone is sidelined with a thigh injury, but his participation against Depor, in any of both games, hasn’t been ruled out.
