Deportivo have wasted two of the four penalties taken on this league season. Those were expensive mistakes as the team lost two games. One penalty was useful to rescue a point.

Any team lacking to score goals and create scoring opportunities cannot afford to waste any clear chance to score, starting with the penalties. And Deportivo is falling in this subject after missing two of the four penalties had so far. Los Blanquiazules rescued a point thanks to a penalty, but at least lost other two for the same reason.

Things started well as Depor rescued a point in matchday 02 with Isaac Cuenca seizing a last-minute penalty to clinch a 2-2 draw at the Riazor before Rayo Vallecano, which was the first point added on this league season. There was a penalty against Real Madrid that also ended in goal, this time through Haris Medunjanin, though it was worthless as it was during the 2-8 loss at the Riazor.

But later the Galician outfit missed to capitalize the next two penalties. On matchday 04, with Deportivo visiting RC Celta, the same situation was repeated. The score was 2-1 in favour of Los Celestes and Depor were awarded with a last-minute penalty, this time Medunjanin saw how his attempt was saved by the keeper and the team dropped which should have been a valuable point.

And on last Sunday Depor missed another penalty, this time awarded at the beginning of the game and when the score was still 0-0 hosting Málaga CF. This time it was Iván Cavaleiro was the one that saw how Kameni was blocking his low attempt.

During the post-game press conference coach Víctor Fernández revealed that there’s a roster to throw the penalties, though he didn’t want to reveal names. Now a third man should be the responsible for the penalties, it could be Cuenca, Luisinho or Luis Fariña, the other players that normally take the set-pieces.

In the previous campaign of Deportivo at Primera División, the team also missed two penalties during the first round in the tournament. At the time coach José Luis Oltra didn’t have a fixed roster and Riki failed twice from the penalty spot: 2-0 Vs. CA Osasuna (matchday 01) and 0-2 Vs. UD Levante (matchday 12).
