The fourth winter signing of Deportivo is Borja López, a young centre-back that isn’t playing too much in AS Monaco. He’s the fourth player for the position and comes loaned for six months.

Deportivo confirmed on Thursday the signing of centre-back Borja López Menéndez; he will be 21 on Monday and is coming loaned from AS Monaco. The deal is for six months and there’s no buyout option over the player.  He arrives on Friday in order to complete the medicals.

Borja is an Asturian player that came out from the academy of Sporting Gijón and that suffered a knee injury on last season when he was loaned at Rayo Vallecano. In the end he was transferred to AS Monaco for €2.2 million, but barely played there on this season (only 3 minutes in the Coupe de la Ligue facing Lyon).

That’s the reason why they want to loan him out in order to get minutes. Borja has also played with the U-18 team of Spain during the European tournament of 2013. He has played three games at Primera with Rayo Vallecano. His knee injury was suffered in a 0-4 loss visiting Villarreal (May 10, 2014).

This arrival completes the moves of Depor in the winter window. Previously the club signed striker Oriol Riera, centre midfielder Celso Borges and winger Hélder Costa. There was a pending signing in order to cover the departure of Diakité.

The club attempted the signing of Iván Ramis and Georgios Tzavellas, players with a different profile as they have more experience, but in the end Borja López is the choice of the club. He will be the fourth centre-back competing with a spot before Lopo, Insua and Sidnei.
