Depor’s coach is aware of the importance of the casualties at his squad, but he’s also relieved for having a deeper team compared to the first round. Eibar’s coach wants to reaffirm the impression left in the first round.

Gaizka Garitano Aguirre (39) made history in 2014  as his SD Eibar clinched the promotion from Segunda B to Primera in only two seasons. It’s something that Fabri González did before in 2011 with Granada CF. Besides, he’s now the second youngest coach at Primera just behind RCD Espanyol’s Sergio Gonzalez.

He’s the nephew of Ander Garitano, a well-known former player of Athletic Bilbao. Gaizka tried to follow his footsteps and played at the academy of the Basque club, though without any luck as he never reached the first team, at least playing in liga, because he had the chance to perform in the UEFA Cup.

Garitano spent his playing career performing at five clubs, including Galician CD Ourense, and only reached some success at Real Sociedad. After his retirement in 2009 he signed as the assistant coach of SD Eibar; three years ago Garitano was named as the head coach of the Basque club and had a direct impact in the results, because the team clinched two promotions, the last one as the champion at Segunda.

This is his second meeting against Víctor Fernández after the 0-1 of the first round. The last win at Rayo Vallecano allowed Depor’s current coach to reach the mark of 201 wins at the elite of Spanish football. He tied ex-Depor’s Toshack and only five coaches have more wins than him: Luis Aragonés (344), Miguel Muñoz (323), Javier Irureta (259), Ferdinand Daucik (234) and Javier Clemente (205).

Depor’s first team addressed the media on Friday evening, just after ending the training session. He talked to reporters for thirteen minutes. He was emphasizing the importance of the meeting, “It’s a very important game. I rate it highly, because it is the right moment for us. We have important casualties, but we are ready to overcome them and in front there will be a rival with a high intensity.”

For him it would be very important to clinch straight victories, “Quantitatively, it would be great to get six points in a row when you are starting to see the end of the season and the value of the points is increasingly important. It would strengthen and confirm the evolution of the team in recent matchdays. Depor must have the same level of intensity, excitement and game in order to win this meeting.”

Depor arrive to the meeting having the casualties of Sidnei, Fariña, José Rodriguez and Postiga, but for the Aragonian coach things are under control now, “Things would have been worse some time ago, but this week Borja arrived and will help us. Hélder [Costa] is also more adapted to the team, so we have other options and the situation isn’t as dangerous as it was in other circumstances.”

The Zaragoza-born coach stated that Sidnei is doubtful for the next game, “I’m afraid that currently he’s already doubtful for the next game against Real Madrid.” Asked if Borja López is going to be his replacement, he left the feeling that the chosen one will be Insua, “He [Borja López] arrived this week and completed a few trainings. He will help us. He’s prepared, but another thing is that he will be s starter. I don’t think he will be.”

Depor’s trainer explained why Hélder Costa was included in the roster before Salomão, “Let’s notice that Hélder will help us to fix the situation at both, the the left and right wing, he will fix any problem that we can face. Salomão can also do that, but Hélder is more prepared and was the chosen one.”

He was praising the level of SD Eibar, “They had a spectacular first round, competing at the top and showing a high level. We must match this intensity in order to be able to win the game. We are facing a rival that was the Segunda champion, with a big difference and solvency, and it kept the base of the starting team. They already have enough points to have more tranquility than the rest of teams, but we are the ones forced to give a better impression in order to win.”

Víctor was asked how much time is needed before seeing the Depor that he wants, and the response was, “The important thing is to have all the players available. It isn’t a matter of what I want, but that the team is more solid and much more prepared for the meetings. We now know the league and definitely have much more alternatives than before.”

About the debut of Celso Borges Víctor Fernández was saying that more is expected from him, “I believe he’s a very professional player. After the game he said that he didn’t feel so well. What happens is that he remains in the phase of adaptation. What happens is that not even in the best of his dreams he thought that was going to score twice, but he has class and quality and is aware that must help us deeper on the pitch.”

Eibar’s coach addressed the media on Thursday noon. He was admitting that his team is reaching a crucial point and that it needs to improve, “We have to make a good game and we have to strengthen the morale of the team. We have to be optimistic. Within the last few days people have spoken highly of us, if we have been criticized after recent results it suits us, because we will be forced to work harder. I don’t say that the team is not performing well, but you need alerts from time to time to improve. "

He was also warning about the level of Deportivo, "They have earned a lot with the new signings, they’re in the best moment of the season, for that part we have to climb one new step in our performance, we know they are fine and we have a nice challenge, but we must make the effort in order to add points.”

“The team needs to grow up from the defence and we need to be stronger. The true is that the team has always been good in this aspect, but right now we have to recover our best qualities. We already demonstrated that this team is not an easy rival for anyone.”

The Basque coach is having problems at defence for this game due to the casualties. One of the expected starters is Didac Vilà, who has faced several injury cases on the season. The coach said that the player has been fine lately, “He’s fine and has been training pretty well. He has surpassed all the injuries and I’ve confidence on him.”

Rafa Páez is one of the two signings during the winter window, he arrived in order to cover the departure of Albentosa, but the coach explained that he might skip the game due to problems with the player’s transfer, “He has only completed two or three sessions. We don’t know if he will be able to debut as we are still missing the transfer. He’s a player with the profile of Eibar: hungry and a hard worker. We hope he can grow up with us. If he could have the transfer then he will be available for the coach.”

Finally, Garitano was feeling sorry for the injury sustained by Manu del Moral, “I suffered the same fracture and spent a month without been able to play, so the deadlines are around there. He’s a very important player to us, but unfortunately he hasn’t been available, now this means a new step backwards. On this month I am not thinking of Manu, but that the rest of the team will play well.”
