Important game for Deportivo in Madrid; the Galician have only scored two goals on the road during 2015; Víctor Fernández will try to fix the problem with the presence of Lucas, Fariña and Cavaleiro.

Crucial game for both sides in the quest for the permanence; Getafe CF haven’t been in relegation on this season, but lost four of the last six games and need points to avoid further problems, while Depor are again close to the pit after only adding 2 of the last 18 points in dispute. The main problem for both team is the lack of goals playing in their condition for this game.

Getafe CF have only scored 11 goals at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, it’s the third worst mark at Primera División for a home team, only above UD Almeria (9) and Granada CF (8). They ended scoreless in six of their fourteen home meetings played so far.

Worse is the situation for Deportivo as the Galicians have only scored six goals on the road, the worst mark in a liga and the worst mark in the club since the Primera campaign 1972/73 (5). Depor have played five away games in 2015 and ended scoreless in four of them. The last time they scored away from the Riazor was for the visit to Rayo Vallecano (1-2, January 30).

The last two visits to Getafe CF left negative impressions with two big losses for Depor (4-1 & 3-1), but the Galicians have had good results at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez after clinching three victories in eight matches played there. The last victory visiting Los Azulones took place on the campaign 2009/10 with goals scored by Filipe Luis and Mista (0-2).

Only six goals on the road for Deportivo during the league campaign, the worst mark at Primera and the clear demonstration of the problems lived by the Galician team when they play away from the Riazor. Despite the poorness Depor have managed to add ten points in this condition, including two victories (0-1 at SD Eibar and 1-2 at Rayo Vallecano).

The coach hided his intentions during the trainings sessions, but it’s expected that, in the attempt to break the spell, he will put an offensive team on the pitch with Fariña, Lucas and Cavaleiro performing at the same time leaving José Rodriguez, a centre midfielder reconverted into right winger, on the bench.

It’s a 4-2-3-1 figure, Fabricio Agosto is the starting keeper, Juanfran Moreno performs at the right side of the defence, Luisinho covers the left, while Pablo Insua enters the formation joining Sidnei Rechel at the central positions.

Celso Borges returned without problems from his long trip and performs alongside Álex Bergantiños at midfield. Iván Cavaleiro attacks from the right wing, Luis Fariña does it from the left, Lucas Pérez is the playmaker and Oriol Riera is the centre forward.

Three players stay at the injury room: Diogo Salomão, Hélder Postiga and Cezary Wilk. Winger Isaac Cuenca and right-back Laure Sanabria return after not been picked for the past game with RCD Espanyol, while four players weren’t picked for tactical reasons: centre-back Borja López, left-back Roberto Canella, centre midfielder Haris Medunjanin and winger Hélder Costa.

Fabricio was talking of the importance of this meeting, ”Now all the games are match-balls. We must succeed at Getafe in any possible way. It’s vital. It’s also important for them and for this reason it will be difficult. We cannot afford to not add points. We must go out for the three points and return with a big smile in the face.”

Álex Bergantiños also believes that the game is vital, ”The game is very important because both teams are close to each other. Getafe have a very good squad, with players with experience at Primera. I believe they have enough squad to clinch the salvation, but if we go there and win then they will be in the group of teams at the bottom.”

Manuel Pablo talked of the calculations that the players are making regarding the salvation, ” I think we need 38 or 39 points, but you never know. Everything is too tight and in the end no one knows for sure. From this reason we must add the highest number forgetting the opponent that is in front of us.”

Fariña was saying that Depor must deal with the pressure after the recent poor results, ”We are living an uncomfortable situation in which you are in risk entering the danger zone if you don’t win, and you assimilate that, but we must try to deal with the situation having calm. It’s an important game and we are expecting to get the three points. This game will mark how Depor will end, it will mark the salvation, but we must be cool-minded and having confidence that we will add points.”

List of picked players (18): Fabricio, Lux (goalkeepers); Laure, Manuel Pablo, Juanfran, Insua, Sidnei, Luisinho (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Juan Dominguez, José Rodríguez, Celso Borges, Fariña, Cuenca, Lucas Pérez (midfielders); Cavaleiro, Toché & Oriol Riera (strikers).

The Madrilenian team has lived a calm season in the competition, at times closer to the European zone than of relegation, but the situation is very different outside the pitch. And it’s that a sense of instability has been surrounding the club all campaign long. Just to mention that they already had three coaches despite not been in relegation in any matchday. After ten years at the elite Los Azulones are financially struggling and the economic problems have been hitting the team.

At the beginning they had to sell Michel and Sammir to the Chinese league, while a battle to inscribe Pedro León left to a confrontation against the financial rules of la liga and even with the player and the players’ association. The weirdness continued in 2015 as Quique Sánchez Flores decided to leave the club after only seven matches in command of the team. The previous coach, Cosmin Contra, left the club tempted by an offer coming from China and it was thought that Flores was following the same path.

Unexperienced Pablo Franco Martín took charge of the first team and will stay in the job until the end, just in the moment when Getafe CF need to secure the permanence before things can turn to be more dangerous. He’s the chosen one in order to close the door of a turbulent season in which the problems at the office haven’t corresponded to the things done on the pitch.

Despite losing four of the last six games the coach has found a stable formation and won’t make too many changes to the 4-2-3-1 figure. Ex-Valencia Vicente Guaita defends the goal. Brazilian Naldo Gomes and Uruguayan Emiliano VelázquezAlexis Ruano returns but to perform at the right side of the defence.

Sergio Escudero, who was close to sign for Depor some years ago, performs on the left side of the defence. Algerian Mehdi Lacen is recovered from his injury, so he will perform alongside Diego Castro at midfield.

Pedro León attacks from the right wing, Ecuadorian Fredy Hinestroza does it from the left, Pablo Sarabia is the playmaker and Álvaro Vázquez is the centre forward. The former player of Swansea City is the top-scorer at the team with seven goals added to his tally.

Ángel Lafita and Yoda, the players that scored for Getafe in the first round game, are out injured and the coach is picking two attackers from Getafe B in order to fill the gaps: Emiliano Buendia and Alex Felip.

Ex-Depor Juan Rodriguez will be on the bench; he was talking of the game, ”It’s a very important game for us, we can make the jump and we all know that, we are going out to win it. We also know that a lot is at stake for them, but we must continue been strong at home, without been overconfident, because the results at home, with the exception of the match against Athletic, have been good.”

Escudero also points to the game as a very important moment for the Madrilenians, ”We are facing a direct rival for the permanence and with a victory we will be trespassing the frontier of the thirty points, then we would see things in a different way. I don’t think we should be watching past games, just need to look at Sunday, because if we win then we will leave the rival with a difference that will be difficult to overcome.”

List of picked players (18): Jona, Guaita (goalkeepers); Alexis Ruano, Roberto Lago, Velázquez, Naldo, Escudero, Vigaray (defenders); Lacen, Sarabia, Pedro León, Diego Castro, Juan Rodríguez, Fredy Hinestroza, Emi Buendia, Alex Felip (midfielders); Álvaro Vázquez & Papa Diawara ‘Babá’ (strikers)
