Iván Cavaleiro is the best U-23 player on the season. No one knew what to expect from this Portuguese attacker when he arrived to A Coruña, but turned to be the starting left winger.

It can be said that Iván Cavaleiro is one of the most pleasant surprises on the season. When he was signed in a loan deal coming from SL Benfica he was saw as a young attacker that was going to pay the price in the demanding la liga due to his inexperience.

But he ended the season as the seventh player with more minutes (2,391) and only the arrival of Víctor Sánchez prevented him to have bigger numbers, this since the Portuguese skipped two of the eight games in which the Madrilenian coached the team.  Before, he was a fixed starter for Víctor Fernández and missed his first game on the season until matchday 25 (he was injured).

Cavaleiro was understood to be a centre forward that was going to increase the depth for the position, instead Víctor Fernández used him as a left winger and he left a positive impression with his skills, though it’s also true that his performance wasn’t too brilliant within the last month.

He scored three goals, including the first goal for Depor on the season visiting Granada CF (the other goals were the winner against Athletic Club and against SD Eibar). He also provided three assists, which was the best mark at the club tied with Lucas Pérez.

The contribution from Cavaleiro was highly appreciated by the peña members of RCDLC.com, to the point that he and Fabricio were the only players that earned a POM (player of the month award) in more than one opportunity.  The Portuguese was the best player in the months of October and January. He ended as the third most voted player on the whole season.
