REVIEW: GETAFE 2 - DEPORTIVO 0 (LIGA)

28 Oct 2006
Once again, Deportivo wasn't able to conquer a victory away from Riazor. This time it was Getafe, a club that achieved its first win in Primera against Depor. Caparr??s' team presented a poor image although it dominated the actions after the early goal of Del Moral. Now, the Galicians are out of Europe and must wait for the visit of Barcelona, a complicated game that could bring them back to the top.

BEFORE THE GAME
Caparr??s sent the expected team for this game with Joan Verd?? leading the offensive efforts of the squad. Filipe Luis appeared also as a starter and Riki was the responsible for the goals. In Getafe, coach Schuster preferred to see Manu Del Moral upfront instead of Paunovic, a bet that gave a positive result for the German coach.

FIRST HALF
As always, Depor started the game trying to put some pressure on the rival. Capdevila enjoyed the first opportunity of the game, but the Catalan fell down when he was entering into Getafe's area. But the home side soon found its golden opportunity; Celestini found some room between Coloccini and Sergio in midfield, then he sent the ball to Manu Del Moral, and the Madrilian striker took advantage of Arbeloa's error to pass Aouate with a cross to the right post.

After the early goal, Deportivo dominated the actions although the squad wasn't able to create real danger against Abbondanzieri. The main actor in midfield was Joan Verd??, but it wasn't enough. A shot made by the Catalan and another one made by Riki -this last one from inside the area- were the only chances that Depor had in the first period. Filipe was lost on the left wing, and Arizimendi was constantly battling on the right. Meanwhile, the defensive line seemed imprecise, especially on the sides, Capdevila and Barrag??n didn't enjoyed their best evening.

Once again and as it happened in Levante, the Galician squad seemed to be without ideas and uncomfortable with the fact of having the responsibility to push for a goal. Getafe was just waiting and speculating with counterattacks, and they almost scored the second goal with a shot from Casquero that passed inched away from the right post.

SECOND HALF
Caparr??s didn't like what he was seeing, for that reason he introduced Juan Rodr?guez for Barrag??n. Coloccini moved his position and covered the right side in defence, while the ex-M??laga player occupied a space with Sergio in midfield. Eight minutes later, Caparr??s changed the plan once again with the entrance of Adri??n L??pez. The youngster replaced a disappeared Filipe. Riki moved his position to the left wing and Adri??n played as striker.

But all these movements weren't worthy, Depor enjoyed the possession over the ball, but it was Getafe the most dangerous team with its counterattacks. Getafe's coach, Bernd Schuster, saw the problems that Deportivo had on both sides of the defensive sector, and he sent Nacho to the pitch in order to take advantage of the spaces. And it was the Andalucian winger the one that scored the second goal after he received a pass from Manu Del Moral in a counterattack.

The most clear chance for Deportivo arrived at the end. Capdevila was inside the rival's area, but he wasn't able to connect the ball properly. As was seen in this last action, Depor was really imprecise with the ball during the whole game. The Galician squad wasn't able to make three consecutive passes and once again, they fell down away from Riazor.

AFTER THE MATCH
This result puts Deportivo away from Europe. The Galician club occupies the seventh position although the difference with the sixth place is just the goal average. In order to return to the top, Depor must beat Barcelona next Saturday, a hard quest that Caparr??s' men will try to achieve at the Riazor. For the moment the entire team will be received by the king of Spain this Monday; a ceremony that's part of the centenario of the club.
