It wasn’t a good week for coach Víctor Sánchez, despite the break he lost other two men due to injury reasons. The good news is that he expects to recover the major part of the players for the next game.

The break in la liga changed the pace at Abegondo, but not to continue witnessing injury cases hitting the team. Attacker Luis Alberto picked an ankle sprain at the beginning of the match against Valencia CF. Before there were already five men with injury problems: goalkeeper Fabricio (knee), right-back Manuel Pablo (hamstring), playmaker Cani (muscle), Fede Cartabia (adductor) and striker Oriol Riera (hamstring).

And during the week two more cases occurred. On Wednesday winger Luisinho picked a knee injury during the training session, and two days later it was Juanfran who had to leave the training pitch with an ankle sprain. In this way the team ended the week with eight players out of the group due to injury reasons.

The good news is that all of them are progressing and the major part will be available for the next game against Rayo Vallecano (September 14, 20h30 CET). Fabricio is already training alongside Manu and Lux though without receiving the medical okay to play. For now the only player ruled out of that game is Manuel Pablo, who remains training apart. Last signing, Jonás Gutiérrez, is training during the weekend at Abegondo and will join the group on Monday.

Taking advantage of the break, the club participated in a friendly game at the Riazor against CD Lugo. And with the casualties hitting the team it was a good moment to see the lads from the academy sharing part of the highlights. After all other three men were out as they joined their national teams: Celso Borges, Jonathan Rodríguez and Haris Medunjanin.

During the week up to nine lads training with the first team: David Gómez, Blas Alonso, Marcos Legaz, Álex Corredera, Santi Taboada, Miguel Real, Hugo Rama, Róber & Óscar García. Eight of these nine lads played in the game against CD Lugo (Taboada was the only one that didn’t play).

And they shone in the game against the Galician neighbors, the major part of them played in the second half and were decisive in the penalty shootout with Legaz and Ben Fisk scoring from the penalty spot and especially with David Gómez blocking two penalties.
