Deportivo search for the first victory on the season in the place where it conquered its last away win. Víctor allows the return of Cartabia. Jémez has problems in defence while he tries to hurry the integration of the new signings in attack.

January 29, 2015; it’s the day in which Deportivo conquered its last away victory, and precisely it was achieved at Estadio de Vallecas visiting Rayo Vallecano (1-2). Since then the Galicians have made 10 liga visits and missed the victory.

But it’s also true that it didn’t leave a negative impression in this stage despite not clinching the three points, because it added six draws and some were really tough exams, like the last three away games playing against Athletic Club (1-1), FC Barcelona (2-2) and Valencia CF (1-1).

And Vallecas is a “friendly” field for Depor, because Los Blanquiazules have won 11 of the 26 league matches played there, including 4 of the last 8. In the last match played there Celso Borges debuted scoring a brace.

Rayo Vallecano are having a slow start after missing to score a goal in the first two games (seven teams were scoreless after the first two matches). A curious stat is that Rayo and Depor represent the “oldest” teams in la liga, the Madrilenians have an average age of 28.9 years at their first team, while Deportivo’s average age is 28.7

Decent start of season for Depor; the team has left positive feelings among the fans and the media, but it is missing the victory. Since the arrival of coach Víctor Sánchez at the end of last season the Galicians only won once in ten games and now they return to the stadium that saw their last away victory in la liga. They need to confirm these feelings and the best way to do it is to clinch the first victory in the campaign.

The Madrilenian coach has recovered players in attack and is expected that he will only make one modification to the team that drew at Mestalla. It’s the entry of Fede Cartabia for Juanfran on the right wing. The rest is the same 4-2-3-1 figure of the 1-1 draw with Valencia CF.

German Lux covers the goal, Laure performs at the right side of the defence, Fernando Navarro covers the right, the central positions at defence are for Alejandro Arribas and Sidnei Rechel.

There were doubts with Celso Borges, but it’s expected that he will stay playing alongside Pedro Mosquera at midfield. Luis Alberto received the medical okay to play and stays on the left wing. He had to be replaced early at Mestalla due to an ankle sprain, then Fayçal Fajr is the playmaker and Lucas Pérez is the centre forward.

Four players are staying at the injury room: Manuel Pablo, Fabricio, Cani and Oriol Riera. Winger Jonás Gutiérrez wasn’t picked for the game after joining the team until this week, midfielder Haris Medunjanin is out for tactical reasons and the 19-men roster is completed with winger Miguel Cardoso.

Pedro Mosquera was explaining during the week what Depor need to do in order to win this game, "Vallecas is a complicate field. I was lucky to win once there. They want the ball possession and have defeated teams like Barcelona. We must learn how to suffer without the ball and when we have it then we must make some damage."

Meanwhile, Celso Borges, who scored the goals in the last away victory, was remembering that game, ”Vallecas brings good memories, it was pretty special. Those were happy moments and hopefully we can repeat those feelings. Let’s hope we can repeat the victory on Monday. It’s going to be hard, it’s difficult, but hopefully it can happen again.”

Finally, Lux was saying that this is a difficult challenge for Depor, “It’s an ambitious and dangerous team, mainly playing at home. We don’t know how the game is going to be developed, but at their field Rayo is an intense team and usually they have a lot of chances to score. We have spent the week trying to study how to play against them. We know what we are going to meet there and will try to counteract it and then use our weapons to damage them.”

List of picked players (19): Lux, Manu; Laure, Lopo, Sidnei, Arribas, Juanfran, Navarro; Juan Domínguez, Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera, Luisinho, Fayçal Fajr, Cartabia, Cardoso, Celso Borges; Lucas Pérez, Luis Alberto & Jonathan Rodríguez

New record for the Madrilenian club with its fifth straight season at the elite, but once again it leaves the impression that coach Paco Jémez has to start from zero again after making a lot of changes to the team. Without a proper budget to keep the best players they end lacking stability and the exits and arrivals were common during the summer window. Thus they lost three of their best four scorers on last season (Alberto Bueno, Léo Baptistão and Gaël Kakuta)

So, it shouldn’t be strange that they haven’t scored a goal yet as the full offensive line is new and several of these players are just settling down after joining the team late, just to point out that two of their main hopes in attack, Pablo Hernández and Javi Guerra, were signed on deadline day.

And for this game Jémez also has problems at defence as right-back Tito and centre-back Zé Castro (both hamstring) are out injured, while keeper Toño is suspended after been sent off against RC Celta.

It’s predicted a 4-2-3-1 lineup, with Juan Carlos at the goal, he replaced Toño after he was sent off at Balaídos. The casualties at defense are allowing opportunities for Quini Marin and Antonio Amaya, the first covers the right side and the latter joins Diego Llorente at the central positions, then Nacho Martínez covers the left side.

Ex-Celta Roberto Trashorras is the captain at the team and performs together with Raúl Baena at midfield, German Patrick Ebert attacks from the right wing, Adrián Embarba, one of the two players coming from the B squad at the lineup (the other is Nacho) does it from the left, Portuguese Tiago Dias ‘Bebé’ is the playmaker and Javi Guerra will debut performing at the centre of the attack.

The entry of Guerra will mean that Manucho will be on the bench, the Angolan was commenting during the week that he is wishing to play the game,”Every time you face a team like Deportivo you want to play well and give the best of you. I would love to face Deportivo, because it’s a very good team and they have signed very good reinforcements during the summer.”
