PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO - ESPANYOL (LIGA)

27 Sep 2015
Two teams in a good moment collide at the Riazor; Borges, Lucas Pérez and Luis Alberto return to the lineup, while Espanyol will try to stay in Europe despite been the worst defense in the league.

STATISTICS: THE WORST DEFENCE IN LA LIGA
The season is just starting and there are good news and bad news for RCD Espanyol. The bad news is that they are tied with Granada CF as the worst defence in la liga after allowing 11 goals in the first five games. The elven goals were conceded in three games with the low note of the 0-6 loss at home against Real Madrid. The good news is that, despite the defensive problems, they won three of those meetings and are already sixth at the standings.

Depor are also having good and bad news; the good news is that the Galicians are living a solid moment in the competition after picking eight points in the first five games, it’s the highest mark at the elite for the club since the campaign 2009/10 (9). The bad news is that Los Blanquiazules remain as one of the eight teams in the tournament that haven’t won at home. They only picked a point in two games disputed at the Riazor.

Also, Los Periquitos have always faced problems visiting the Riazor; after forty-one league visits they only managed to win five times there, actually they lost in four of their last seven games played there and ended scoreless in six opportunities. Their last victory in A Coruña was in the Primera season 2009-10 (2-3).

DEPORTIVO: THE DUO IS BACK
After been rested in midweek, coach Víctor Sánchez is ready to rely again in Lucas Pérez and Luis Alberto, duo that before the visit to Real Betis were directly involved in the six goals scored by the team before that meeting. They have been the most regular players in attack and the bet of the coach is working as the team picked the points in Seville while at the same time rested the duo, something that was important taking in mind that only 52 hours were separating both matches.

Meanwhile Luisinho and Jonathan Rodríguez, players that were starters on their positions, weren’t picked for this match. The first is out due to a gastric problem. Another player that was rested and that’s returning for this match is Celso Borges, the midfielder entered the game against Betis during the second half and provided the assist in the winning goal. These are the three expected changes in a lineup that will keep Fede Cartabia, who offered a solid exhibition against Betis that included to score a great goal.

The lineup should be a 4-2-3-1, with German Lux covering the goal, Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ performing at the right side of the defense, Fernando Navarro playing at the left side, while the central positions are for Alejandro Arribas and Sidnei Rechel.

Celso Borges and Pedro Mosquera are the centre midfielders, Cartabia attacks from the right wing, Luis Alberto does it from the left flank, Fayçal Fajr is the playmaker and Lucas Pérez is the centre forward.

Goalkeeper Fabricio suffered a relapse from his knee injury and returns to the injury room. Manuel Pablo is the other player out for injury reasons. Together with Jonathan Rodriguez and Luisinho the other players out for tactical reasons are Jonás Gutiérrez, Haris Medunjanin, Sául García and Miguel Cardoso

List of picked players (18): Lux, Manu (goalkeepers); Laure, Sidnei, Arribas, Lopo, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Juan Domínguez, Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera, Fayçal Fajr, Cani, Celso Borges, Cartabia (midfielders); Lucas Pérez, Luis Alberto & Oriol Riera (attackers)

ESPANYOL: DAY & NIGHT
RCD Espanyol have demonstrated that they are capable of the best and the worst in this start of season, they left a very poor impression losing 0-6 at home before Real Madrid and immediately chained two straight wins before big rivals like Real Sociedad and Valencia CF. In this way they are in a European spot despite been the worst defence in the league.

Still, it should be considered as a positive start taking in mind that the financial problem forced the Catalan club to sell their best players during the summer, in this way keeper Kiko Casilla, centre-back Héctor Moreno, midfielder Lucas Vázquez and striker Christian Stuani were transferred. So, the team is still searching for an identity and this good start brings confidence in the adaptation process.

The Catalan team arrives fresh after resting two more days than Depor and with two injury problems; keeper Francesco Bardi, who sustained a knee injury during the week, managed to recover and entered the roster for the game. In any case the Italian, who arrived loaned from Inter Milan, hasn’t been the starting choice for coach Sergio González. Who didn’t manage to enter into the game is right-back Anaitz Arbilla.

It’s predicted a 4-2-3-1 formation, 20-year-old Pau Lopez is the starting goalkeeper, Javi López covers the right side on defence, Rubén Duarte performs on the left, while the central positions in defence are for Álvaro González and Chilean Enzo Roco.

José Alberto Cañas and Víctor Sánchez perform at midfield, Paraguayan Hernán Pérez attacks from the right wing, Víctor Álvarez does it from the left, Marcos Asensio is the playmaker and Gerard Moreno is the centre forward.

There are high expectations with both Asensio and Moreno, the first is a playmaker that belongs to Real Madrid and that was pretended by several clubs for a loan spell, while the Catalan club paid €1.3 million to Villarreal CF for Moreno during the summer.  For the moment both are living different situations, Asensio is still settling and has only played twice, while Moreno is a fixed starter and is the only player at the team that has scored a goal and provided an assist.

Left-back Rubén Duarte was commenting the expectations for this game, ”It would be sensational to add the three points and chain three straight victories. We know that it would be important to win there. I saw Depor and looked pretty strong. They have stability between defense and attack and won twice on the road: they lost at home and surely it will make them to try to reunite again with their fans.”

List of picked players (18): Bardi Pau López (goalkeepers); Correa, Duarte, Roco, Juan Fuentes, Álvaro González (defenders); Víctor Sánchez, Víctor Álvarez, Burgui, Cañas,  Javi López, Hernán Pérez, Asensio (midfielders); Gerard Moreno, Pape Diop , Caicedo & Mamadou Diallo (attackers).
