FOUR NOTES FROM THE GAME IN GRANADA

05 Oct 2015
Deportivo demonstrated that it is a competitive team ready for big challenges, while Fajr is on fire. The centre forwards continue to miss clear chances and Víctor didn’t succeed with the changed made in the second half.

Four are the notes obtained from the draw with Granada CF. The lack of aim by the centre forwards continue to worry, while the team offered a new solid presentation despite dropping two points. The following are the four conclusions form the match at Los Cármenes.

1- This Depor is for real: The speech from the coach and the players is the same: this is just starting and Depor cannot lost itself with the euphoria surrounding the team. But the true is that seven matchdays already passed, in other words almost the 20% of the tournament, and the team continues to present a solid behavior.

Just to have in mind that Depot already faced all kind of rivals, clubs in relegation like this Granada CF and big clubs like Valencia CF, and only once the team has been down in the score (against Sporting). So, waiting for witness the behavior before Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, it is possible to say that this Depor is solid and is a team for real.

2- The weight of Fajr: Another great game by Fayçal Fajr. Lucas Pérez and Luis Alberto continue to be the axis in attack, but it cannot be denied that Mosquera and Fajr are the motors at midfield. In the case of the Moroccan he has been switched between the left wing and the playmaking function and always had a solid performance.

And lately he has been a factor in the goals scored by the team. Within the last three games he has scored two goals and provided an assist, and in the past game with RCD Espanyol it was him who took the lateral free-kick that ended with the own goal by Álvaro González.

3- The curse of the striker: Lucas and Luis Alberto are living a sweeten moment as, combined, they scored six gals in seven games, but the point is that they aren’t centre forwards, and the two players at the team for this position are having a low moment after not netting any goal yet.

Oriol Riera returned from an injury and didn’t score in the game against RCD Espanyol despite having some clear chances, in this game Jonathan Rodríguez had a second chance as a starter and he failed. The Uruguayan missed an open goal at the beginning of the second part that should be considered as expensive as it could have meant a 0-2 in a game that ended 1-1. This failure by the centre forwards is now a curse that has been affecting Depor within the last seven years.

4- Bad call with the changes: Víctor clearly explained after the game that he didn’t make the third substitution due to precaution (Arribas was injured), but the feeling is that he failed in the other two changes as he tried to refresh the attacking line.

And it’s that’s that neither Jonás Gutiérrez nor Oriol Riera had a positive impact in the game. Riera never had a chance and Jonás never had a proper understanding with Lucas. It left the impression that Fede Cartabia would have been a better choice to unclog a game that was already tied.
