VÍCTOR SÁNCHEZ VS VALVERDE

18 Oct 2015
Depor’s coach was explaining the punctual situations with his players after the break; for Athletic’s manager the game at the Riazor is a big opportunity to make a step forward.

Ernesto ‘Txingurri’ Valverde is living his second stage as an Athletic’s coach; he debuted as a professional coach at the youth teams of the Basque club in 1997. Since then he has worked with other five outfits. His previous job was at Valencia CF during the season 2012/13; he arrived in the middle of the chaos, but was able to build up a team that fought for a spot in the Champions League.

Valverde only lost 7 of the 30 games that he coached there; unfortunately the last defeat facing Sevilla CF (3-4) pulled his team into the fifth position. Later Valverde decided to not continue at the club and landed at Athletic Club for the campaign 2013/14.

It was a good move, because his team completed a solid season and ended fourth, which meant a historic second qualification to the UEFA Champions League. On last campaign there were ups and downs, but everything was forgotten winning the Super Cup after trashing FC Barcelona and with a memorable 4-0 win at San Mamés. This is second meeting against Víctor Sánchez after the 1-1 at the end of the past season.

VÍCTOR
Depor’s coach addressed the media during Friday’s noon; he talked to reporters for twelve minutes. He was saying that the break was good for the team, “We believe that yes, we are always optimistic and seize all the situations brought by the calendar in order to obtain positive things. We seized the break, firstly resting and, secondly, having more physical and tactical work.”

He was explaining the condition of Celso Borges after the international break, “In the case of Celso he played at 12PM between Tuesday and Wednesday and was already here yesterday; he accumulated two games with 90 minutes and is a player that has gathered a huge calendar coming from last season, he was also having international activity during the holidays and the true is that he gained the form before we expected. He also had the responsibility of rushing his return in order to have a recovery session yesterday; today he made the work with the rest of the team and tomorrow we will release the roster. He won’t have problems entering the roster.”

German Lux was another name mentioned during the press conference, Víctor explained that the keeper should be available for Sunday, “In the case of German he is having issues in the adductor muscle and we decided that he should make a specific work in that zone, so he can be ready. Tomorrow he should be training without any problem.”

Asked about the rival, the Madrilenian manager said that, “To me the current standings don’t reflect the work done by Athletic. They have a great coach and great players. I believe they have improved a lot compared to last season and not only managing the aerial game as you asked me before. They manage all the facts, both offensive and defensive game. There are players that are key for the organization of the attack when they are not practicing a direct game, players like Beñat and Raúl Garcia. Susaeta is in great shape. Williams is recovered from the injury and off course they have Aduriz. We have been preparing the team during the week not only to counteract all the possibilities that they have in the aerial game, but also the combinative game led by Beñat.”

“They came out to every pitch in order to dominate and press the rivals. They don’t surrender in any field and I believe that the standings don’t correspond to the reality, what happens is that we already know how football is. The efficiency is measured in the difference between goals allowed and scored and in this regard they have been punished. They have dropped several points among other things for facing Real Madrid and Barcelona and it is a big weight, it conditions to have meetings against the two mighty ones within the first seven matchdays.” He added.

Depor’s coach was inviting the fans to attend to the stadium taking in mind that it is the Peña day of the season, “I want to encourage all the Deportivistas not only been at the stadium, cheering up the team during the game, but also to approach to the stadium in the morning, because there are several activities scheduled by the federation of peñas ad surely they will live a great day.”

Finally, Víctor talked of Medunjanin after his explosive performance with Bosnia & Herzegovina, “We are enchanted to see that all our players having phenomenal performances and in the case of Haris, with whom I have a great relationship, he had a very outstanding performance and I’m glad; actually I always send messages to the international players before the game wishing them luck. In the case of Haris he replied and we are happy that things worked out for him. Sometimes the role of the player is limited by the fact of been a starter or not, but our concept is to be a protagonist, because the job of a player goes beyond playing the games.”

“But beyond this there are rules and the rules allow you to have 25 players at the squad and then 18 for the roster, these rules condition the participation of the players and we didn’t invent the concept that some players have more minutes than others. We are enchanted by the fact that players that aren’t having minutes at the team are having a protagonic role at the national team, because it is a way to highlight the work of a player. You can be a protagonist without playing at your team. The daily work is very important. No matter how much you play the players can enjoy their profession. But the circumstances of the national teams aren’t the circumstances of Deportivo La Coruña, so the planning is based in the yield, the state of the players and the planning for the games, so we aren’t affected by the performance of the international players.” He added.

VALVERDE
Athletic’s coach addressed the media on Friday’s noon. He was saying that a victory at the Riazor would mean a big step for them, “We are fine after defeating Valencia. We see ourselves with the needed strength and living a good moment despite having five less points than Depor, and we believe that we must make a step forward.”

He was talking of Deportivo, “They started pretty well after only losing one game and made good reinforcements after the problems had on last year. They got good players from top teams and also from bottom teams, players like Fernando Navarro, Mosquera, Arribas, Fajr, Luis Alberto and a Lucas that’s fast and deadly in the definition. “

“It’s an ordered team. They have made a squad that’s fine. They don’t concede too many goals, Sporting scored three against them, but it was at the beginning of the game. I see that they are fine and this is the line that you must follow: winning games and earning confidence. They are a good team.” He added.

Txingurri didn’t want to say if he will rest players like Laporte, instead he was praising his men, like attacker Williams, “He adds depth to the team as he is always searching for the space, he’s fast and the rival’s defence must be really careful.”

About Etxeita, who was picked by Spain’s national team during last week, the comment was, “It’s always good to see them calling you to the national team and it’s always surprising to receive the first call. It’s a reinforcement for him and we hope to seize the situation too.”

Finally, Valverde is feeling relieved as the calendar isn’t tight in the coming weeks, though new problems are coming in December, “We have a more calmed calendar from here to the next break, because the games are separated by more days, with the exception of the meetings with Espanyol and Partizan, which come almost one after the other. We hope that for the demanding stage in December we can have all the players available, including Rico.”
