PREVIEW: MALAGA – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

24 Oct 2015
Depor visit Málaga CF with Víctor making changes, butt keeping the base of five players that have always been starters. The rival had a poor start and is having big problems with the injuries.

STATISTICS: UNDEFEATED ON THE ROAD
Deportivo represent one of the four teams at Primera that haven’t lost yet playing on the road, the other three are RC Celta, Real Madrid and SD Eibar. Depor have chained six straight liga visits without losing, this is the best mark at the club since spending seven away matches undefeated lived between the seasons 2000/2001 & 2001/2002.

Málaga CF have only won one of the first eight games in liga, mainly because they have only scored three goals, the worst mark in la liga. Actually, they ended scoreless in seven of the eight liga meetings played so far as their only goas were netted against Real Sociedad (matchday 07). But they have only conceded seven goals, two less than Depor, and three of those goals were received in the previous match against Valencia CF, so it isn’t strange to realize that they already clinched three clean sheets, including one at the Bernabéu visiting Real Madrid.

The draw has been the common result of Deportivo’s visits to La Rosaleda, and it’s that 8 of the 12 league meetings played there ended tied. Also, to remember that the Galicians were unable to defeat Malaga CF on last season, this after four confrontations. It was defeated in liga at the Riazor (0-1), it suffered a big loss at La Rosaleda for Copa (4-1) and it only clinched a draw in the first-leg of that competition (1-1) and in the returning match in liga (1-1).

 DEPORTIVO: THE BASE
Coach Víctor Sánchez is used to make changes, but after eight matchdays five men have been starters in all the games, two of them have played all the possible minutes: goalkeeper German Lux and centre-back Sidnei Rechel. The other three men that have been starters in all the meetings are left-back Fernando Navarro, playmaker Faycal Fajr and centre midfielder Pedro Mosquera.

These five men are expected to be starters against Málaga CF, and once again the coach is making changes as he plans a 4-4-2 draw. The changes are starting with the fact that Juan Domínguez wasn’t picked after his poor game before Athletic Club. Two modifications are expected at defence with Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ entering at the right-back position, while Albert Lopo should be joining Sidnei at the centre (option tested in the last training). Navarro keeps performing at the left side.

Celso Borges enters the formation and joins Mosquera at midfield, Faycal Fajr is expected to cover the right wing, Luis Alberto attacks from the left flank, while Oriol Riera joins Lucas Pérez in attack.

Lucas is the top-scorer at the team with five goals in favour, while Riera is scoreless since April, though he has netted goals in his only two visits to La Rosaleda, and both goals were important, last season he meant a point in the 1-1 draw with Depor and on the campaign 2013/14 he gave three points to CA Osasuna in their 0-1 win there.

Manuel Pablo joins Fabricio Agosto at the injury room, while Juan Dominguez is joined by Haris Medunjanin, Saúl Garcia, Luisinho and Jonathan Rodríguez in the short list of players that are out for tactical reasons. Luisinho is out for the third straight game, in the first the Portuguese was injured, while the coach preferred other choices lately.

List of picked players (19): Lux, David Gómez, Manu (goalkeepers); Laure, Lopo, Sidnei, Arribas, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera, Fayçal Fajr, Cani, Celso Borges, Jonás Gutiérrez, Cartabia (midfielders); Lucas Pérez, Luis Alberto & Oriol Riera (attackers)

MALAGA: PROBLEMS WITH THE SQUAD
It has been a disappointing start for Málaga CF, the bad results are keeping the team close to relegation and the main headache for coach Javi Gracia is the big problems to find the balance at the squad. If during the summer he lost Samuel García, Samu Castillejo, Sergi Darder and Juanmi, quartet that was sold in order to pay some debts, he has been unable to have a full squad available during the eight matches played so far, this after been hit by a plague of injuries affecting key men.

Striker Roque Santa Cruz returned from Mexico, but has been unable to play firstly due to a thigh problem and now for a knee injury. Nordim Amrabat, who is considered as their most dangerous player in attack, is out until January due to a knee problem, and in the last game against Valencia CF the Navarran coach lost centre-back Marcos Angeleri (wrist fracture).

And on Thursday the list of casualties became bigger as it was known that centre midfielder Ignacio Camacho sustained an Achilles injury. The casualties and the poor performance of some men is pushing Gracia to switch the draw and is predicted that he will change the 4-2-3-1 for a 4-4-2 playing with two strikers.

Carlos Kameni will defend the goal, Venezuelan Roberto Rosales covers the right side on defense, Ivorian Arthur Boka returns and covers the left position. Ex-Eibar Raul Albentosa is a novelty and he joins Brazilian Weligton Robson Pena at the central positions.

At midfield territory, José Luis García ‘Recio’ is joined this time by Argentine Fernando Tissone. Pablo Fornals attacks from the right wing; the 19-year-old player was already a starter in two opportunities after leaving a positive impression against Real Madrid.

Moroccan Adnane Tighadouini attacks from the left wing, while Croatian Duje Cop joins Charles Dias de Oliveira up front. The ex-Pontevedra man is the only player at the squad with goals added to his tally on this season as he scored a hat-trick against Real Sociedad at the beginning of the month.

Right-back Rosales was talking about the current situation of the team, ”There are moments when things don’t work out, but we believe in our qualities. From the bottom you only go out with hard work, it’s the only way I know. We have to achieve a good result. The team has enough quality to revert this situation. A lot of liga still ahead and the start hasn’t been good, but we hope to start the change in the next home meeting.”

List of picked players (18): Kameni, Ochoa (goalkeepers); Albentosa, Weligton, Rosales, Boka, Filipenko, Miguel Torres (defenders); Juan Carlos, Fabio Espinho, Horta, Tissone, Recio, Duda, Pablo Fornals (midfielders); Tighadouini Charles & Duje Cop (attackers)
