Deportivo want to return to winning ways after a month, Víctor rescues Medunjanin and the Bosnian is expected to be a starter. Atlético arrive to the Riazor repeating the lineup for the first time on the season.

Deportivo have only picked points in two of the last twelve liga matches played against Atlético Madrid, and those two matches were disputed at the Riazor. For the campaign 2009/10, the Galician outfit claimed a 2-1 win with goals scored by Colotto and Guardado, the other positive result in this frame of time was a goalless draw during the season 2012/13. The rest of the meetings were defeats, including last season 1-2 in the debut of Víctor at the Riazor.

Atlético Madrid are having a good start to the season, they are currently third and have won four of the last six liga matches. Despite losing twice, they have only conceded five goals, which is the second best mark in the league, just behind Real Madrid (3).

In the case of Deportivo, the Galicians remain sixth at the standings despite only picking two of the last nine points in dispute. Depor have a poor record at home after only winning one of the four matches disputed so far at the Riazor (4 points), it’s the eighth worst mark in the league.

A lot has been commented about the start of season by Deportivo, the Galicians remain at the sixth place and it’s considered as one of the pleasant surprises by the media. However, the Blanquiazul team didn’t show a good performance in the last two games and has only added two of the last nine points in dispute, spending the last month winless.

It invites to think that, maybe, Deportivo are slowing down after the promising start, and the next game means a big challenge as Atlético Madrid are visiting the Riazor. A new negative result will surely pull down Depor from the European places and could bring the first doubts to A Coruña.

However, the players always kept both feet on the ground and proclaim that they must remain focused in clinching first the goal of salvation.  Celso Borges was talking of the issue during the week. ”In the last game things weren’t good to us, but we cannot be afraid and neither can bring doubts about our game, because it is what brought us here. It’s what happens at any time as the rival can beat you. A lot of things can be rescued from the games, especially against Granada and Athletic. I wouldn’t call it a descending line.”

German Lux was even saying that, perhaps, the expectations of the fans are too high, ”Perhaps the start has been too good and maybe it was too much encouraging for people. Truly we are sixth in liga, but there are other teams over there and our goal is different. We are also dreaming of doing great things, but the reality passes through working hard in order to clinch the permanence.”

The main news for the game is that Haris Medunjanin was picked for the first time on the season and the Bosnian is even expected to be a starter after the coach tested a 4-3-3 draw during Thursday’s training (penultimate session as on Friday the team trains behind closed doors). German Lux is the goalie, Juanfran Moreno should be the right-back defender, Fernando Navarro performs on the left, while the central positions are for Sidnei Rechel and Alejandro Arribas.

The trivote at midfield is for Pedro Mosquera, Celso Borges and Medunjanin. Fayçal Fajr attacks from the right wing, Luis Alberto does it from the left, while Lucas Pérez is the centre forward.

Fabricio, Manu and Manuel Pablo are the three players at the injury room, striker Jonathan Rodríguez returns to the roster after two weeks off, while the players out for tactical reasons are Saúl García, Juan Dominguez, Oriol Riera, Miguel Cardoso and Luisinho the latter is out due to his conflict with the coach and the team.

List of picked players (18): Lux, David Gómez (goalkeepers); Laure, Lopo, Sidnei, Arribas, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera, Fayçal Fajr, Medunjanin, Celso Borges, Jonás Gutiérrez, Cartabia (midfielders); Lucas Pérez, Luis Alberto & Jonathan Rodríguez (attackers)

The busy calendar for the Madrilenians, with the team competing in liga and Champions League, hasn’t allowed coach Diego Simeone to repeat a lineup in consecutive matchdays. But now they are “resting” in midweek and the Argentine man is ready to repeat the same starting eleven that left a positive impression before Valencia CF, this supported by the fact that there are no fresh injuries affecting the team.

The rotations have been also influencing the participation in Champions League, as example what happens at the left back position, place where ex-Depor Filipe Luis is the starter in liga, while Guillherme Siqueira is the one that performs in the European tournament. In this way, apart from goalkeeper Jan Oblak, only three men have been starters in all the nine liga games on this league season: centre-back Diego Godín, attacker Antoine Griezmann and midfielder Gabi.

The draw will be a 4-4-2. Slovenian Oblak defends the goal, Juanfran Torres covers the right side of the defense, Filipe covers the left side, and the central positons are for the Uruguayan duo composed by Godín and José María Giménez.

Gabi and Portuguese Tiago Cardoso perform at midfield, Jorge Resurrección ’Koké’ attacks from the left wing and Belgian Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco does it from the right. The latest is a 22-year-old player that has impressed in this start of season, been the player with more recoveries at the team and even scoring twice in liga.

The couple up front is composed by Antoine Griezmann and Jackson Martínez. Colombian Martínez has been praised for his leadership, though he has only scored twice so far, while French Griezmann is one of the main threats at Primera División with four goals and two assists added to his tally on this campaign, last season he scored the two goals in the victory at the Riazor.
List of picked players (19): Moyá, Oblak (goalkeepers); Godín, Filipe, Siqueira, Savic, Gámez, Juanfran, Giménez (defenders); Tiago, Koke, Óliver, Gabi, Saúl Ñíguez, Carrasco (midfielders), Griezmann, Fernando Torres, Jackson Martínez & Correa (attackers).

Deportivo: (4-3-3) Lux – Juanfran, Arribas, Sidnei, Navarro – Borges, Mosquera, Medunjanin – Fajr, Lucas, Luis Alberto.
Atlético: (4-4-2) Oblak – Juanfran Torres, Giménez, Godín, Filipe – Carrasco, Gabi, Tiago, Koke – Griezmann, Jackson.
