Lucas Pérez is now one of the players in vogue in la liga. The Galician attacker has scored seven goals in eleven Primera matchdays, a mark only seen twice on this century at Deportivo.

Since some weeks ago Lucas Pérez has been on the spotlight in Spain; his performances, and specially his goals, have put this 27-year-old player among the most followed players in the league. Just last week there was some criticism as, together with other attackers like Aduriz, was left out of Vicente del Bosque’s list for this week international matches.

And it’s that Lucas has netted seven goals in the first eleven matchdays in la liga, mark only below Neymar (11), Luis Suárez (9), Cristiano Ronaldo (8), Agirretxe (8) and Javi Guerra (8). Beyond that, his mark of goals is something barely seen in the history of Deportivo.

On this century only two players have netted seven or more goals after the first eleven league matchdays. The last one was Roy Makaay, who scored eight in the first eleven games of the campaign 2002/03, just one season before Diego Tristán had netted seven goals  in the same number of meetings.

And on last century only five men were able to reach this impressive mark. Julio Antonio Elícegui was the first one as he only needed nine matches to score seven goals (season 1941/42). Rafael Franco scored eight times within the first ten matchdays of the campaign 1950/51.

The recordman at Deportivo is Manuel Fernández ‘Pahiño’, who scored ten goals in just the first five matchdays of the Primera campaign 1954/55, including two braces and four goals against RC Celta (4-2 at the Riazor), while José Roberto Gama De Oliveira ‘Bebeto’ is the only man at Depor that conquered this mark twice in his career at the Galician club.

The Brazilian attacker landed in A Coruña for the season 1992/93 and had an immediate impact at the team scoring eight goals within the first eleven meetings, and for the campaign 1995/96 his start of season was more explosive after scoring nine goals within the first seven matchdays, a rally that included the five goals netted against Albacete (October 1, 1995), a game that’s famous as Bebeto scored four goals in just five minutes (the quickest poker in the history of la liga).

Another thing to have in mind is that Lucas is the Galician player with more goals at Depor in one single season since Fran. The former captain of Los Blanquiazules ended the season 1994/95 with seven goals in 36 matches, Lucas now tied the mark in only 11 meetings.

In order to find a better mark is necessary to go back to the Primera campaign 1968/69, time when Antonio Eduardo López ‘Beci’ scored eleven goals in 27 appearances. The record of a Galician player at Depor is the 18 goals netted by Manuel Fernández  ‘Pahiño’ during the Primera season 1954/55 (22 matches), followed by the 16 goals scored by Marcelino Fernández ‘Tino’ during the Primera campaign 1950/51 (30 matches).
