Ten years have passed since the last time a Galician derby was played with both teams living a good moment at Primera. Combined, Depor and Celta have only lost four of their twenty-two games played so far.

Sweet moment for Galician football with both Deportivo and RC Celta living a good moment at Primera División. Despite the first Galician derby of the season is scheduled the same day than the derby Real Madrid Vs. FC Barcelona, it is one of the main events in the matchday as the ninth place at the standings is hosting the current fourth place.

And it’ that Depor and Celta are enjoying one of their best start at the elite, for the club from Vigo it’s the best with the team adding 21 points in the first eleven matchdays and only losing twice. Depor have also only lost twice, but they drew six times too, reason why they are six points under their neighbors.

In the previous eight derbies, both teams were at Segunda or, in the cases that they were at the elite, at least one of the sides was facing relegation problems, like the derby played at the Riazor on the season 2006/07 (matchday 11), both teams arrived living a mid-table and Celta won the game (0-1), but ended suffering the relegation in the end.

The last time a derby was played at the elite with both Depor and Celta living in the first places at the standings was ten years ago, it was for the season 2005/06. RC Celta were visiting the Riazor on matchday 35 (April 29, 2006).

The tournament was ending and Celta visited A Coruña fifth at the standings and with a clear chance to qualify for the UEFA Cup, while Depor were seventh, five points away, with some chance to qualify for Europe and already saved. The club from Vigo won the game 0-2 with goals scored by David Silva and Perera.

On that season Celta qualified to the UEFA Cup ending sixth, though one season later they suffered the relegation, while Depor ended eighth, only two points away from Villarreal CF and from the qualification to the Intertoto Cup.
