Squad news

Depor’s coach want to remain focused in this match and not make calculations about the current situation of the squad, the rival was praising the performance of Deportivo on this season.

José Luis Mendilibar is a Basque coach with a long career in football; he was a former player at the youth teams of Athletic Bilbao, though he never reached the first team and neither Primera División. His career as a coach begun in 1994, and reached the top flight until the year 2005, and it was a short experience because he was fired from Athletic Bilbao before the end of the first round (he just coached the team for ten games).

He later joined Real Valladolid in the summer of 2006 and achieved the promotion to Primera División breaking all the records at Segunda. Mendilibar stayed there until he was fired at the middle of the liga campaign 2009/10.  He was out of business for one full year until returning on February 14, 2011 replacing Camacho at CA Osasuna.

At the Navarran club he clinched the salvation in two straight seasons, but was fired at the beginning of the campaign 2013/14 due to poor results. He joined Levante UD in 2014, but only lasted eight matchdays after only winning one game. After all these ups and downs he signed during the summer with SD Eibar replacing Gaizka Garitano, and so far he is having good results with the team comfortably living at mid-table. This is his first meeting against Víctor Sánchez Del Amo.

Depor’s coach addressed the media on Friday’s noon. It was a weird press conference as Víctor had throat problems after been yelling at the Camp Nou during the past weekend, for this reason it only lasted six minutes. He starting talking of CD Mirandés, the rival in Copa Del Rey, “No matter the rival in Copa I believe all the teams have plenty of hope in a pretty competition like Copa Del Rey, so you have to respect all the rivals no matter the league where they are playing and their run in the league. We must respect all the rivals as everybody wants to have a good run in the competition, surely they will bring problems as it happened before with Llagostera.”

About the upcoming game with SD Eibar, the Madrilenian coach commented that, “Eibar are doing a fantastic season, I believe it’s similar path compared to us. We both suffered a lot on last season in order to clinch the permanence, now we started strongly and follow the same path. It’s a team that I like, it’s brave and it will be difficult [he had to drink a bottle of water before ending].”

He doesn’t think that Eibar will feel reinforced after clinching the comeback in Copa, “It’s a different competition. I believe their morale is high, just like ours; but it’s high for the points they have and for continuing the same way in order to approach the goal of salvation.”

The coach denied the idea that the team wants to win this game in order to reach the Christmas break closer to the permanence, “The homework won’t be done until securing it mathematically. As we said before: we cannot live of what is done. It isn’t enough for the goal. What’s true is that we want to remain the same, and in this sense the next three points are important to make a step forward.”

There was a question about the best and the worst in 2015, but Víctor only wants to focus in this game, “The game against Eibar. We can only think of that. Three points. It should be the only thing in our minds at this point. It will be really difficult, I already tell you”

He was asked about the presence of Borja Bastón at SD Eibar, but he preferred to emphasize the collective performance,  “It’s  team that’s shining collectively. Off course the goal scorers, Borja and Enrich, are on the spotlight, but there’s a collective work there that’s sensational. I will emphasize this before.”

Finally, Víctor explained what happened to Juanfran during Friday’s session: “He suffered a knock during the training, but we hope it won’t be a problem.”

Eibar’s coach addressed the media on Friday’s noon. He was labeling Depor as one of the best teams in their league, “Depor is a team with pace and intensity and I believe it’s among the best teams in our league, so it will be a tough and difficult game. We cannot allow them to reach our area, because if not then we will have problems. We are fine and are coming after good results in Copa, so it will be an open game until the end.”

He doesn’t think that the last-minute casualty of David Juncà and the suspension of Ramis are going to be determinant, “Depor also have six casualties. It’s the normal thing in la liga if we have to play on Wednesdays and Sundays. The body doesn’t allow you to be 100% ready for all the games. In the end the spectacle cannot be good because not everybody is at the same physical conditions. The holidays will be good in order to recover the injured men.”

Finally, Mendilibar explained why centre midfielder Iñigo Barrenetxea from the B squad was picked for the game, “He played in Copa and did the right things, without complications and neither committing mistakes. We always hope the players from the academy can help us during the trainings and also in the games if we need them in a specific moment.”
