Peaceful victory for Depor, not even tainted by the fact of playing with ten men for twenty minutes. Lucas increased his mark and Arribas made a great game sealed with the second goal.

Coach Víctor Sánchez sat Jonathan Rodríguez as it was expect, but kept playing with a 4-4-2 figure. Luis Alberto was the chosen one in order to join Lucas Pérez in attack. Luis Alberto played in midweek in Copa and a few minutes against FC Barcelona, but this was his first appearance as starter in liga since October 18 (2-2 Vs. Athletic Club).

German Lux was the starting goalkeeper, Juanfran Moreno performed at the right side in defence, Fernando Navarro covered the left, while the central positions were for Alejandro Arribas and Sidnei Rechel. Álex Bergantiños and Pedro Mosquera were the centre midfielders, Fayçal Fajr attacked from the right wing, Luisinho did it from the left, then Luis Alberto and Lucas were the strikers.

At SD Eibar, coach José Luis Mendilibar chose to play with Antonio Luna covering the left side in defence. The rest was the expected formation, with ex-Depor Borja Bastón and Sergio Enrich as the main references in attack.

This was the last home game in 2015 for Deportivo, the club prepared thousands of Christmas bonnets for the fans attending the Riazor; the money collected with the measure is going to be donated to charity.

Low pace in a first half with only a few opportunities; Depor faced problems with the pressure by Eibar, but later found some room to create scoring chances, though it only completed two shots on target, one of them was a penalty over Lucas.

Deportivo were trying to have the ball since the start, but the pressure of Eibar was forcing the Galicians to risk with high passes and volleys that were intercepted by the Basques.  So, the first chance to score arrived only after an error. It was a corner-kick of Fajr that Asier Riesgo lost at the box, but Sidnei didn’t arrive in time to push the ball in.

But Eibar were looking more dangerous, their passing game was allowing them to enter the area, but the shots of Escalante and Keko were blocked at the last second. Depor were trying to push but within the first 15 minutes they only gained three corner-kicks plus a shot, and that attempt was an acrobatic shot of Luis Alberto after a corner-kick that missed the target .

The first big opportunity in the game came at minute 17,  a low cross from Lucas couldn’t be cleared properly by two defenders, Fajr arrived at the far post and it seemed he was going to score, but his low shot went wide.

Borja Bastón appeared for the first time at minute 24, he picked a volley at the edge of the area and was alone before Lux, but Arribas came from behind and blocked his shot. Arribas made a great game, he was intercepting the moves of the attackers and ended the half with five clearances.

Depor responded two minutes later with a cross of Lucas that Luisinho found at the left side of the area and his shot went over the crossbar. The Galicians were finding a lot of problems before the pressure of Eibar, but at the same time they were finding the cracks at the sides of the visiting defence, thus came the best chances with a Lucas that was easily getting ahead the side defenders. The first shot on target for the locals came at minute 32, it was a volley from Luis Alberto that was blocked by Riesgo.

A key minute in the game was the 40’, a goal by Borja Bastón was disallowed due to an offside, and in the counterattack a long pass by Navarro was found by Lucas Pérez, who entered the area and fell before the intervention of Riesgo, later referee Estrada Fernández whistled a penalty that was highly protested by the Basques. Lucas didn’t miss the opportunity and scored from the spot. With this goal he tied the mark of Bebeto scoring goals in seven straight league matchdays.

It was a well-known fact that Eibar is a team that decreases its performance in the second halves, and that was what happened in this game, because the Basques barely disturbed a Deportivo that never lose the sense of comfort, not even after been reduced to ten men. It also helped the fact that they scored the second goal just four minutes after Luisinho was sent off.

The final part started with missed shots by Dani García (46’) and Álex Bergantiños (47’). The Basques continued pushing and looked fresh despite the sacrifice in midweek for Copa and despite they had to make two changes in the first part, one of them for injury cases, but they slowly lost the impulse.

Eibar were also still missing to stop the game of Depor by the sides, mainly at the left, Lucas was close to capitalize one of these cracks at minute 49, but the ball was cleared by Capa before the Galician attacker was able to release a cross. Two minutes later Escalante had the first clear chance in the second part, the Argentine found the ball at the edge of the area, but his attempt went close to the far post of Lux.

The game became entertaining as Eibar were trying to attack, while Depor found a comforting situation with plenty of space to release the counterattack. The locals had a couple of chances to score the second in these kinds of plays, always with Lucas involved, but they always failed the last pass.

The first modification at Depor was the entry of Fede Cartabia replacing Luis Alberto, the latter was having muscle problems. The Argentine appeared from time to time and his best chance was a shot from mid-distance that went over the bar (64’)

Depor were finally in total control of the game, Eibar were getting tired and Deportivo were caressing the three points, but then Luisinho was sent off with two yellow cards. He saw the first in the first half and the second for simulating a penalty. The Galicians had to play the last twenty minutes with ten men.

But the disadvantage wasn’t going to be a problem, because soon Depor scored the second goal. It was a corner-kick on the left, Fajr released a perfect cross into the path of Alejandro Arribas, the ball hit a rival and later the face of the centre-back to end at the bottom left-corner of Riesgo. It’s his second goal on this season.

The second goal killed the game, Eibar surrendered and Depor were even close to score a third goal. At minute 79, Lucas fired a rocket from the edge of the area in a counterattack, but the ball passed close to the crossbar. Depor’s second and last change was the entry of Juan Dominguez for Lucas. The last 30 minutes were played under the pouring rain.

Victory for a Deportivo that only faced some problems in some stages in the first part. The Galicians completely dominated the game after scoring the first goal and never felt in danger, not even when Luisinho was sent off. Lucas tied the mark of Bebeto scoring for the seventh straight matchday, but the player of the game was Arribas, immense in defense and even adding gunpowder in attack with the second goal.
