PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – GRANADA (LIGA)

28 Feb 2016
Víctor is ready to repeat the draw with the novelties of Lopo and Lucas Pérez; meanwhile Granada CF visit the Riazor for the second straight opportunity with a new coach and been the bottom club in la liga.

STATISTICS: THE WORST DEFENCE IN LA LIGA
Granada CF are now the bottom club at Primera División after losing four of its last six matches, the main problem is the defence after allowing 51 goals in 25 league games, the worst mark at Primera tied with Rayo Vallecano. The Andalusians have been unable to keep a clean sheet within the last 13 league games, the last time was in November hosting Athletic Club (2-0).

Neither good are the present times for Deportivo, the Galicians are the only Primera club that remains winless in 2016. Depor are also having defensive problems as their last clean sheet was clinched in the last game of 2015 visiting Getafe CF (0-0).

Depor have faced problems in the recent games hosting Granada CF, Los Rojiblancos only won four times at the Riazor, but it turns out that they haven’t been defeated within the last five games played there. The last time the Galicians clinched a home win over Granada CF was for the Segunda season 1979/80 (1-0, goal by Antonio Cantudo).

DEPORTIVO: CONTINUITY
Despite missing the victory since 2015 and that the 4-3-3 didn’t work in the previous game with RCD Espanyol, coach Víctor Sánchez is ready to repeat the system in a crucial game at home, the pending games at the Riazor are vital as, apart from been playing in front of their crowd, in five of the remaining seven home games Depor are playing against teams fighting to survive and a victory has a double meaning.

The coach wants continuity and repeats a draw with many inaccuracies, the main problem with the draw has been the difficulties to contain the rival’s game on the sides and, despite the coach has worked during the week how to cover the holes at midfield and at the sides, it doesn’t seem that the problem will be fixed in this game, but the return of Lucas Pérez adds a new dimension as he can also find more aids coming from midfield for the offensive game.

Apart from Lucas, the draw will present another novelty. It is the presence of Albert Lopo, who is making his second appearance as a starter in 2016 taking the spot of injured Sidnei. The Catalan faces a hard test in the coming week, because until this point he has only played in five league meetings, and now he will probably be a starter in the three games that Depor are going to play in a matter of six days.

The rest of the formation is the same that faced RCD Espanyol. German Lux is the goalkeeper, Juanfran Moreno covers the right side in defence, Fernando Navarro performs on the left sector, then Lopo and Alejandro Arribas are the centre-backs.

The trivote is composed by Álex Bergantiños, Celso Borges and Pedro Mosquera, Fayçal Fajr is the right winger, Luis Alberto attacks from the left wing, while Lucas is the centre forward.

Cani didn’t recover in time and joins Juan Dominguez, Fabricio and Sidnei at the injury room. There are 19 men on the roster as Stipe Pletikosa is the third keeper and the only men out for tactical reasons is Manuel Pablo.

Luis Alberto was saying that this is a final for Deportivo, ”It’s going to be a complicate game, but we are eager to win again. We are playing for our life, so it is a final for us. We are making a season to not suffer and surely we will surpass this negative streak and will end living without pressure.”

List of picked players (19): Lux, Manu, Pletikosa (goalkeepers); Laure, Lopo, Arribas, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Celso Borges, Mosquera, Cartabia, Luisinho, Jonás Gutiérrez, Fayçal Fajr (midfielders); Jonathan Rodriguez, Oriol Riera, Lucas Pérez & Luis Alberto (attackers).

GRANADA: DEJA VU
Once again Granada land at the Riazor been the bottom club at Primera and once again they do it after sacking their coach. Last year they visited A Coruña in January and were the last place after been carrying a negative streak of fifteen straight matchdays without victories. Now the streak isn’t so big (four straight losses), but they are also the bottom place.

Last year Abel Resino had just joined the club after the exit of former Depor’s man Joaquín Caparrós, now something similar occurred as José Manuel González joined the club on Wednesday after José Ramón Sandoval was sacked just hours earlier.

It’s hard to predict the lineup that González will present in his first game, after all during the three days he spent with the team he only trained the set-pieces and talked to his team about not allowing so many goals from inside the area (21). The media, however, predicts that he will play with a 4-4-2 formation, just the scheme he used in the past coaching clubs like Cádiz CF.

Andrés Fernández will be covering the goal, Portuguese Miguel Lopes performs on the right side of the defence, Italian Cristiano Biraghi does it on the left, while the central positions are for veteran Ricardo Costa and ex-Elche David Lombán.

Malian Abdoulaye Doucouré and Fran Rico are the centre midfielders, Rubén Rochina attacks from the right wing, young Nigerian Isaac Success does it from the left, then Venezuelan Adalberto Peñaranda and Moroccan Youssef El-Arabi are the centre forwards.

El-Arabi is the best scorer at the team, but his six goals scored so far are too little for a team that needs points, while 18-year-old Peñaranda should be considered as a surprise as he arrived during last summer for the B squad, but since November he is playing with the first team and scored 4 goals in 12 la liga appearances.

The captain of the team, Diego Mainz, was talking of the game during the week, ”We got in this mess and it is us who must go out from down there. We have a better squad of what our current position can tell, but if we are the bottom club four points under the salvation it is because things weren’t done right. Deportivo aren’t having a good streak, but are more comfortable at the standings. There should be a team demonstrating that it is playing for more things, and that team should be us.”

List of picked players (18): Andrés Fernández, Jesús Fernández (goalkeepers); Lombán, Biraghi, Babin, Ricardo Costa, Foulquier, Miguel Lopes (defenders); Rochina, Krhin, Fran Rico, Doucouré, Cuenca, Edgar (midfielders); Barral, El Arabi, Success & Peñaranda (attackers).
