MATCHDAY 29: DRAMA AT THE BOTTOM

The leaders continue to win their games, while the victory of Levante UD has left a tight situation in the quest to avoid demotion. Granada caressed to leave the pit, but dropped two points at the last minutes

After three straight matchdays with the visiting teams claiming good results, now only one away side was able to pick up the three points -Real Madrid- The main movements occurred at the bottom, with Granada CF leaving the pit and Levante UD clinching an important victory.

Meanwhile, no big changes took place at the top. FC Barcelona didn’t have any problem dispatching Getafe CF (6-0), neither Atlético Madrid had any difficulty to defeat a depressed Deportivo (3-0). But the side that lived a bad moment was Real Madrid, the Madrilenians suffered a lot and were close to drop two points, but managed to defeat UD Las Palmas on the road with a last-minute goal (1-2).

These three clubs will surely end at the first three positions, while the situation is now interesting in the fight for the fourth spot. Villarreal CF were facing a crucial game visiting Sevilla CF and weren’t able to hold on the two advantages they had throughout the meeting (0-1 and 1-2) to end losing 4-2.

The yellow submarine has now only added one of the last nine points in dispute and the Andalusians are now only five points behind them. Then Athletic Club and RC Celta are increasing their chances to claim the Europa League spots, the Basques impressed in their 3-1 win over Real Betis, while the Galicians suffered, but won 1-0 before Real Sociedad.  SD Eibar are now eight points away from the seventh spot after only been able to claim a point visiting Rayo Vallecano (1-1).

Málaga CF moved to safer waters with a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijón, the Asturians remain in the drop zone after losing five of their last six games. The big news was the 1-0 win of Levante UD in the Valencian derby against Valencia CF.  Meanwhile, Granada CF dropped two points before RCD Espanyol with a late goal (1-1), but the point managed them to leave the pit due to the goal average rule.

Getafe CF are now in relegation for the first time since matchday 03. With this result, plus Levante’s win, the difference between the last five places is only of three points, so the fight for survival is now more open than ever before.

MATCHDAY 30: BIG FIGHTS AT THE TOP
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have tough meetings before the break as they face the chaser of the fourth place; the Catalans are visiting the current holders of the spot, Villarreal CF, while the Madrilenians host fifth place Sevilla CF. Atlético Madrid make a tricky visit to Sporting Gijón, while Deportivo play a final hosting last-place Levante UD.

The matchday is completed with other six meetings: Getafe CF Vs. SD Eibar; Real Sociedad Vs. UD Las Palmas; Granada CF Vs. Rayo Vallecano; Real Betis Vs. Málaga CF; RCD Espanyol Vs. Athletic Club & Valencia CF Vs. RC Celta.
