The club announced on Wednesday that Celso Borges has signed a two-year renewal; thus the midfielder will stay linked to the club at least until 2019. There’s the option for an additional year.

The club announced two renewals on Wednesday. One of the cases is Celso Borges. The current contract of the midfielder was ending in 2017, but with this new deal he will remain linked to the club until 2019 with the option of an additional season.

Borges arrived during the summer window of 2015 as Deportivo were struggling to survive at Primera; he gained a spot at the starting spot since the beginning and had an explosive start scoring twice against Rayo Vallecano (January 30). He ended last season with 17 league appearances (1,471 minutes) and three goals scored.

For the present campaign, and despite a toe injury that left him on the sidelines for two months, Borges kept a starring role at midfield and is currently the tenth player with more minutes in liga (1,492); he has also scored three goals, the last one in the derby with RC Celta.

The policy of the club is to secure the continuity of key players, it is what the club has been doing since last summer with the cases of Sidnei and Lucas Pérez, while players like Pedro Mosquera have recently signed new deals after been tempted by other clubs.

The next stage for the officials is to try to secure the continuity of Faycal Fajr and Luis Alberto, the latter is the most difficult case as he is pretended by Valencia CF, side that already opened the talks with Liverpool FC.
