Squad news

Depor travel to Andalusia searching for a victory and the 40-point mark, for it Víctor is making changes and present a squad with four full-backs. The rival wants to break a spell of three straight defeats.

If there’s an unexplained situation in la liga during this season it is the behavior of Sevilla CF according to the condition in which they are playing, the Andalusians are one of the best home teams in the competition, to the point of been the third best local outfit adding 13 victories in 16 matches played at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium. Their 39 points at home are only surpassed by Real Madrid and FC Barcelona (both 43).

However, there’s a drastic change at the moment of playing on the road, because Sevilla CF have only added 9 points after 16 visits and actually are the only Primera side that haven’t clinched any away win on this season. Their only two away successes occurred in Copa Del Rey (at Real Betis) and in the Europa League (at Athletic Club).

Meanwhile, after losing before UD Las Palmas, Depor are still searching for the three points in order to reach the 40-point mark, and this seems to be a tough place for it as it has been a tough visit recently. The Galicians have missed the victory in their last five visits to Sevilla CF, the last success there was a 0-1 win during the season 2007/08 with a goal scored by Riki.

Lately, and despite the poor results, coach Víctor Sánchez has opted in not making too many changes in the lineups, neither in the draws nor in the names, but this week it will be different. After testing a possible formation with three centre-backs on Friday he later tested a draw with four full-backs on it. The last time the coach used the latter figure was for the visit to Real Sociedad (1-1, January 16).

And precisely the conditions of the game at Anoeta are repeated now, because Alejandro Arribas is suspended and Fede Cartabia is out injured. The coach is set to repeat that 4-4-2 lineup with the only novelty of Celso Borges, who joins Pedro Mosquera at midfield, plus the presence of Manu Fernández at the goal.

Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ returns after not been used in a month and covers the right side of the defence (his last game was the 0-3 at Atlético, March 12). Fernando Navarro performs on the left, with Albert Lopo and Alejandro Arribas performing at the central positions.

Juanfran Moreno advances his position on the field and covers the right wing, Luisinho returns from suspension and plays on the left flank, then Luis Alberto and Lucas Pérez are the centre forwards.

With German Lux and Fabricio Agosto at the injury room, the coach decided to pick 17-year-old Juvenil A keeper Ramón Rodríguez for the match. Winger Jonás Gutiérrez also returns, but centre midfielder Juan Domínguez and striker Jonathan Rodriguez are out for tactical reasons.

List of picked players: (19): Manu, Pletikosa, Ramón (goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Laure, Lopo, Sidnei, Juanfran, Navarro (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Celso Borges, Mosquera, Luisinho, Jonás, Cani, Fayçal Fajr (midfielders); Oriol Riera, Lucas Pérez & Luis Alberto (attackers)

It’s all excitement in Seville after the qualification to the Europa League semifinals, a tournament that suits perfectly the Rojiblanco squad, but the team coached by Unai Emery cannot forget that they are losing the track in liga. After three straight defeats they are out of the European zone and, despite a new European title would put them back into the Champions League, they cannot get distracted and need to reenter the top-six group in order to secure European football on next season, so they need a last effort in liga.

Still, Emery will have to make rotations in order to refresh the squad after the exhaustive tie with Athletic Club and especially since he has several players dragging issues, like Kevin Gameiro, the top-scorer at the team with 15 goals in favour (5 goals within the last six games), who ended the game with Athletic dragging a knock.

It’s predicted a 4-2-3-1 lineup for the game, Sergio Rico is the goalkeeper, Jorge Adújar ‘Coke’ covers the right side of the defence, Sergio Escudero performs on the left. Frenchman Timothée Kolodziejczak is one of the players dragging issues, so Portuguese Daniel Carriço and Adil Rami are the centre-backs.

French Steven N'Zonzi and Uruguayan Sebastián Cristóforo are the centre midfielders, José Antonio Reyes attacks from the right wing, Ukrainian Yevhen Konoplyanka does it from the left, Éver Banega returns from suspension and is the playmaker in the formation, while it’s expected that Fernando Llorente will be the centre forward.

31-year-old Llorente has had a quiet season only scoring four goals in nineteen appearances. More impressive has been the season for Vicente Iborra, a centre midfielder reconverted into an attacker and that has scored five goals and provided two assists in twenty-three meetings. Recently he has been coming out from the bench and it’s expected that he will do it again against Depor.

List of picked players: (18) Sergio Rico, Beto (goalkeepers), Coke, Diogo, Escudero, Kolo, Carriço, Rami (defenders), Cristóforo, N'Zonzi, Iborra, Banega, Ivi, Reyes, Konoplyanka (midfielders), Curro, Llorente & Juan Muñoz (attackers).

Sevilla: (4-2-3-1) Sergio Rico - Coke, Rami, Carriço, Escudero - Cristóforo, N'Zonzi - Reyes, Banega, Konoplyanka - Llorente.
Deportivo: (4-4-2) Lux – Laure, Lopo, Sidnei, Navarro – Juanfran, Borges, Mosquera, Luisinho – Luis Alberto, Lucas Pérez.
Referee: Santiago Jaime Latre
Kick-off: 16h00 CET (Sánchez Pizjuán)
Head-to-head vs. Sevilla CF: 35 wins for Depor, 23 draws, 33 wins for Sevilla (Primera & Segunda)
