PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – EIBAR (LIGA)

19 Aug 2016
Depor debut in the league season 2016/17; Garitano command a team that already completed the expected exits and arrivals. The rival is still searching for a replacement for Borja Bastón.

Venue: Riazor (22h00 CET)
Referee: Mario Melero López

STATISTICS: DEBUT WITH A VICTORY
Deportivo have only won one of the last five liga opening matches at Primera División (now called La Liga Santander), it was a 2-0 win over CA Osasuna for the campaign 2012/13. Last season the team opened the competition with goalless draw before Real Sociedad. This game is an opportunity to clear up the ghosts of last season as the Galicians were the worst home team in the competition with only 4 wins and 20 points added at the Riazor.

Depor played ten friendly games during the pre-season, it won six of them, adding two draws and only losing two times (0-2 Vs. RC Celta & 0-1 Vs. Desportivo Chaves). It scored 23 goals and only allowed 7, though 10 of the goals in favour were scored against a Tercera club (SD Negreira).

SD Eibar also played ten friendly matches during the pre-season, in their case they only won three meetings, added three draws and lost four times. They scored 12 goals and allowed 15. Their defeats occurred against Beşiktaş JK (0-3), FC Köln (0-2) & RB Leipzig (2-3).

DEPORTIVO: DEBUT FOR GARITANO
Gaizka Garitano debuts at Deportivo, the Basque man has the mission of finding a pattern that could drive the Blanquiazul team to the permanence and, at the same time, to find the peace missed inside the changing room during the last part of the previous campaign. The club already made the expected signings, so the attention is focused in how the team could yield after a perfect summer window.

Team news: There are no casualties among the 21 players that have been training with the first team in recent weeks. Striker Marlos Moreno joins the team on Friday and won’t be picked at least for the first two games in the competition. Keeper Rubén Martinez, midfielder Álex Bergantiños & striker Borja Valle are the players out for tactical reasons.

Man to watch: First official game for several players, one of them is Florin Andone. The Romanian striker is the most expensive signing of Depor in a decade and the fans want to see him playing together with Lucas, though it’s expected that he will start on the bench as Garitano will probably rely in the 4-2-3-1. He shone against Villarreal in the Teresa Herrera scoring a beautiful goal at the Riazor.

Picked players: (18) Lux, Tytoń (goalkeepers); Laure, Juanfran, Sidnei, Arribas, Albentosa, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Borges, Pedro Mosquera, Çolak, Fajr, Guilherme, Carles Gil, Bruno Gama (midfielders); Lucas Pérez & Florin Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lux – Juanfran, Albentosa, Sidnei, Navarro –Guilherme, Mosquera - Bruno Gama, Fajr, Çolak – Lucas Pérez.

EIBAR: LOOKING FOR STABILITY
SD Eibar start their third straight season at the elite and the goal is the consolidation after the solid performance had in the previous tournament. Jose Luis Mendilibar continues to be the coach and the Basque club continues to search for reinforcements before the closure of the market. The main target is to sign a striker after the departure of Borja Bastón. Ex-Rayo man Bebe was signed and ended the pre-season as the top-scorer (3), but they will need more gunpowder up front.

Team news: The 21 players at the first team are fit to play, but centre-back Florian Lejeune and midfielder Gonzalo Escalante are dragging a suspension from last season and won’t play the game, so the remaining 19 men were picked for the trip to A Coruña.

Man to watch: Pending to witness the arrival of a centre forward, Pedro León will be on the spotlight. SD Eibar paid €2 million for a winger that should bring the unbalance in attack. Last season he was among the best players of relegated side Getafe CF making 31 appearances scoring twice and bringing four assists.

Picked players: (19) Riesgo, Yoel (goalkeepers); Capa, Dos Santos, Gálvez, Ramis, Juncà, Luna (defenders); Dani García, Christian Rivera, Adrián, Etxaburu, Pedro León, Rubén Peña, Inui, Jota (midfielders); Bebé, Sergi Enrich & Kike García (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Riesgo - Capa, Ramis, Gálvez, Luna – Pedro León, Dani García, Adrián, Rivera – Bebé, Kike García
