First comeback -and victory- on the season. Not a good game by the Galicians, but the players knew how to solve a game that was looking complicated at the middle of the second half.

One novelty in the first lineup of new coach Gaizka Garitano, it was the presence of Carles Gil on the right wing, something that pulled Bruno Gama into the left flank leaving Emre Çolak on the bench. The draw was a 4-2-3-1.

Lux was the keeper, Juanfran covered the right side in defence, Navarro played on the left with Sidnei and Albentosa at the central positions. Guilherme and Pedro Mosquera were the centre midfielders, Gil attacked from the right wing, Gama did it from the left, Fayçal Fajr was the playmaker and Lucas Pérez was the centre forward.

The big surprise at SD Eibar was that coach José Luis Mendilibar left Pedro León on the bench, instead Japanese Takashi Inui attacked from the right wing with Bebe and Kike García as the references in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Boring start in la liga; Deportivo were better within the first thirty minutes, but later the team fell down and gave the ball possession, though it didn’t have consequences as Eibar missed ideas and depth.

The game started with a polemic decision as the referee didn’t want to whistle a clear penalty over Juanfran after the right-back was pushed by Juncá and after he stole the ball at the right side of the area (2’). Four minutes later Bruno Gama had a big chance to score after picking a drilling pass by Guilherme, but he couldn’t define before Asier Riesgo.

At this point in the game Eibar were locked at their side of the pitch, Depor had total control of the actions, but it only created one chance to score within the first fifteen minutes. The team was putting pressure, but later was trying to end the plays through long passes mainly released by Juanfran.

The first approximation by the visiting team was a header of Adrián that missed the target (18’).  Lucas should have scored at minute 19, but the striker attempted to shot on target instead of assisting Guilherme, in the end the ball hit the net by the outside. Eibar’s first shot on target was a curved shot by Bebé that was blocked by Lux.

Depor lost impulse within the last fifteen minutes, mainly after Guilherme started to miss key passes. Still, the locals continued to be the side with the few good opportunities. At minute 29, Fajr assisted Guilherme and the Brazilian attempted a drilling shot that was blocked by Riesgo. Then, at minute 36, Lucas sent the ball over the crossbar after a lateral free-kick.

Eibar ended the first half dominating the ball possession (55’), but they only looked dangerous with Bebé and his long runs, while the Galicians ended the first part with a disorganized pattern, with Lucas fighting, but later Bruno Gama and Carles Gil weren’t finding the cracks at the sides.

The final part was much more exciting; Eibar claimed the advantage and never renounced to pick up something from the Riazor, but Depor found the path to the victory when things seemed the worst.

Deportivo begun the second half committing the same error of the first part: releasing long throws from the defence that were targeting Lucas, but that always ended in the middle of two Eibar’s defenders. The first chance to score in the half was a low attempt by Guilherme that was blocked by Riesgo.

Then Eibar struck. Bebé was close to score with a shot from the edge of the area after a counterattack, Lux barely deflected the ball and in the resulting corner-kick Iván Ramis scored heading the ball downwards after jumping between two defenders.

Garitano reacted and Andone replaced Carles Gil, the draw was now 4-4-2 with the Romanian joining Lucas. At minute 59, Fajr wasted a free-kick action, his shot was going on target, but it was too easy for Riesgo.

Then Luisinho replaced Guilherme and the Galicians started to play with a 3-5-2 figure. It seemed the team was fading away before a more ordered rival, but then Depor equalized. It was lateral free-kick of Lucas with the ball going into the far post, no one was there, but Pedro Mosquera, came from behind and ended crossing Riesgo from the goal line.

Depor were growing in the game and for the first time things were exciting, because Eibar were also looking dangerous in the counterattack, like the volley by Kike García that was blocked by Lux (74’). In the next ten minutes the Basques were looking better and Borges ended replacing Bruno Gama. Still. Eibar were pushing and Ramis could have scored in a similar play to the first goal, this time Lux got the ball (83’)

And when the draw seemed as the final result, Depor found a penalty that was denied in the first part. A high cross from Fajr was searching for Lucas at the left corner of the box, Juncá pushed the attacker and this time referee Melero López whistled the penalty. Lucas didn’t miss from the spot and Depor picked the first win on the season.

It cannot be said that Depor played a good game, but the reaction in the second part left a positive feeling. The Blanquiazul didn’t leave a good impression defending the set-pieces and the new signings seemed out of place. Still, Lucas showed up and his assist and goal meant the first three points.

Deportivo are the first side that picks a win at Primera after the 1-1 draw between Málaga CF and CA Osasuna. The next game is the visit to Real Betis (Friday, 20h30 CET).
