NOTES FROM THE GAME VS. ATHLETIC

13 Sep 2016
The referee and the injuries can be blamed for the defeat, but the true is that Depor played a new dreadful game. The new signings at midfield arenít adding things and the team is still searching for a playing style.

The seven notes from the game against Athletic:

1- A little disaster: The game against Athletic can be described as a little disaster, because absolutely everything was wrong for Deportivo, the team didnít play a good game for the third straight time, the man signed to replace Lucas Pťrez got injured after only 20 minutes on the pitch and he could be out for a while, then the best defender also got injured and to crown the situation the team suffered again with the referees with a goal that should have counted. Misfortune was the queen of the night.

2-  The referees: Second time in the season with a call made by the referees thatís affecting Deportivo. Against SD Eibar it was a penalty that wasnít whistle at the beginning of the game, in this match a goal that was ruled out for an offside that didnít exist. The public also protested the attitude of Raķl GarcŪa after scoring the goal, at the time he was already booked and the midfielder could have seen the second yellow in a couple of opportunities.

3- Poor game, few opportunities, no playing style: The circumstances cannot hide the fact that Depor played a new dreadful game, only a few ideas in attack and the team only created five chances to score. The team was forced to play through long throws and in large parts of the game it left the impression of been sterile.

It was said before that the main advantage of this Deportivo was to make the signings before the expectations, which should have granted an advantage before direct rivals as the coach had enough time to prepare everything, now it turns out that itís impossible to detect a pattern and a playing style in the game of the team. Garitano and the players said that the team wants to practice a passing game, but it isnít what the fans are watching.

4- The best man was Juanfran: Juanfran Moreno was again on the spotlight after Depor was playing on long throws, the Madrilenian was the second man on the pitch that touched the ball in more opportunities (90), but at the same time he was also the one that created more chances (2 of the 5 chances in the game). He made the pass that later Andone wasted for the best opportunity in the first half, and also assisted the Romanian in the goal that was ruled out. Perhaps this is a problem too as Juanfran shouldnít be the man creating the opportunities to score.

5- The new signings arenít working: All the players signed for midfield arenít having the expected weight at the moment of creating game. «olak and Guilherme were intermittent in the first two games, now Carles Gil brought absolutely nothing and to make things worse FayÁal Fajr was diluted on the left wing. Borja Valle entered for Joselu and even touched the ball in lesser opportunities than Lux (32 and 34 for the keeper).

6- Andone, the lonely ranger: It was expected that the arrival of Joselu was going to bring some company to Florin Andone, but in the end the Romanian had to fight against the world for the second straight game. Still, he managed to create a couple of opportunities.

7- Debut for Marlos Moreno: It is going to be a difficult season for the young Colombian attacker, the need is high and he has barely trained with the team when the season already begun. He still has to learn the characteristics of European football, but left a positive impression with glimpses of his individual skills and speed. The pity was the great chance missed at the last minute.
