Kick-off: 20h45 CET (Riazor)

Sporting Gijón have proved to be a hard rival for Deportivo within the last two decades. The Galicians have been unable to claim a win within the last ten official meetings against them: 5 draws and 5 defeats in 8 meetings at Primera and 2 at Segunda División.

The last time Deportivo beat Sporting Gijón during an official match was in the last matchday of the campaign 1997/98 with a 0-3 win at El Molinón (May 16, 1998). The goals were scored by Bassir (2) and Conceição.

Both teams are living a difficult time in la liga; Sporting chained three straight losses, while Depor have only added two of the last fifteen points in dispute and still suffering at home. Actually, the Blanquiazul outfit has only won 5 of the last 22 league games disputed at the Riazor.

The league is only starting, but the last results are leaving the impression that this is a final for Deportivo. The team needs to regain confidence and the fans want a proof that this is going to be a calm season as they were initially expecting. Coach Gaizka Garitano will make changes after the rotations made on last week; it’s expected a very similar team to the one that faced CD Leganés a fortnight ago.

Team news: Sidnei Rechel received the medical okay to play and the centre-back goes directly into the starting eleven. Playmaker Fayçal Fajr is suspended after been sent off against Atlético, while striker Joselu and winger Carles Gil remain at the injury room. Centre midfielder Álex Bergantiños and goalkeeper Rubén Martínez are out for tactical reasons.

Man to watch: Striker Florin Andone. Deportivo need goals and once again the Romanian is on the spotlight. He denied on Thursday that he’s feeling anxious after been the most expensive signing in a decade and since he remains scoreless, and the best way to clear the ghost is to score his first goal wearing the Blanquiazul shirt.

Picked players: (18) Lux, Tytoń (goalkeepers); Laure, Juanfran, Arribas, Sidnei, Navarro, Albentosa, Luisinho (defenders); Borges, Pedro Mosquera, Çolak, Guilherme, Bruno Gama (midfielers); Borja Valle, Ryan Babel, Marlos Moreno & Florin Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Lux – Juanfran, Albentosa, Sidnei, Luisinho – Borges, Mosquera – Bruno Gama, Çolak, Marlos Moreno - Andone.

Sporting Gijón and UD Las Palmas represent the two Primera teams with less shots on this start of season, both teams have only completed 50, which is already less than the half of Real Madrid, the leader in this department (130). The Asturians know that they need goals in order to survive in la liga and, so far, they have only scored five times, which is the second worst mark in the league (Depor is the worst with 3), and in order to score more goals they need more shots.

Team news: Coach Abelardo Fernández is missing two normal starters defender Alberto Lora is suspended, while centre midfielder Nacho Cases won’t be risked due to a muscle problem. A third casualty is Xavi Torres, who was dragging a knock from last week. Centre-back Fernando Amorebieta was picked despite suffering a knock in the last training. The coach will decide on Saturday if he will be a starter. For this reason, twenty players were picked including Juan Rodríguez, a centre-back from the B squad.

Man to watch: Striker Duje Čop. Last season Sporting enjoyed with the loan of Toni Sanabria, who ended scoring 11 goals in 30 league appearances that paved the way to salvation, now they were able to get the loan of Croatian Duje Čop., who already scored three goals and provided an assist after only six matchdays. This is the key man for the season in a team with problems at the moment of transforming the plays into shots and therefore to score goals.

Picked players: (20) Cuéllar, Diego Mariño (goalkeepers); Douglas, Lillo, Babin, Jorge Meré, Amorebieta, Juan Rodríguez, Isma López (defenders); Sergio Álvarez, Moi Gómez, Víctor Rodríguez, Rachid, Carlos Castro, Burgui (midfielders); Afif, Carmona, Dani Ndi, Čop & Borja Viguera (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Cuéllar - Lillo, Jorge Meré, Amorebieta, Isma López – Sergio Álvarez, Moi Gómez - Víctor Rodríguez, Burgui, Afif - Čop.
