REACTIONS TO THE DEFEAT IN COPA

01 Dec 2016
Garitano said that the life remains the same for Deportivo, but trusts that things are going to change soon. The players are optimistic despite the defeat, because the narrow result open a chance for the second-leg.

For coach Gaizka Garitano this was just a repetition of the things saw in previous meetings, “This is happening to us almost every day, the true is that it will change. If the team continues on this path things will change. The analysis is the same we have made before: we commit an error in the first goal and since then nothing happens, well it happens in the rival’s area, but it isn’t enough to score a goal that would have been important in this tie.”

The Basque man was also commenting the return of Joselu after the knee injury sustained during his debut at Depor, “The return of Joselu is important after two and a half months outside the pitch. We are recovering a player that will be important.”

A reporter questioned the reason why Emre Çolak didn’t play in this game and Garitano only explained that, “Álex Bergantiños played in that position, who I believe deserved it for his work, and also Carles Gil, who also made a good game.”

Joselu was satisfied with his return, “I am very happy for returning to the pitch after a serious injury, it is something good to step into the pitch. The feelings are positive despite the result. Personally, I am content as these are the first minutes that I have after the injury, it is helpful to gain confidence.”

The Galician attacker is also hopeful for the second-leg to be played at the end of December, “In the end the outcome isn’t decided in one single game, now we face the returning leg at the Riazor and the game will be very different. Today the result was 1-0 and it isn’t special. It is a defeat but the tie remains open, we will try to change it at home.”

Álex Bergantiños was also positive despite the defeat, “The tie remains open, it was sad that we were unable to score a goal and we had the options to do it. They succeeded in one of the chances they had in the first part and our team played almost the entire second half at Betis’ field, we had two or three clear chances and the feeling is that we didn’t get the deserved reward, but the tie remains open.”

“They had the play of the goal and another plays, while we also have our chances, like the one with Sidnei or the header[of Joselu. We need to improve our aim. It’s only one goal and we will give everything in the second-leg.” The midfielder added.

It was the same speech of Marlos Moreno, who relies that Depor can change the tide for the second-leg, “The tie remains open, we had our chances and we didn’t know how to materialize them.”

At Real Betis, coach Víctor Sánchez was happy with the result, “The goal was to win the game and clinch a clean sheet. It’s good to know how to compete though you aren’t having a fluid game, just as it happened today. But the result is short and will be decided in the returning leg.”
