Garitano has problems building up a squad for the next games, he only has nineteen men available, including Andone, who isn’t totally fit to play. Alavés arrive living their best moment inside and outside the field.

Referee: Alejandro José Hernández Hernández
Kick-off: 21h15 CET (Riazor)

Deportivo Alavés are living their best moment on the season after spending six straight official games without been defeated, for this reason they are closer to the European zone in liga (seven points) than of the relegation zone (nine points).

This is the third opportunity with Depor facing the Basques in a Copa Del Rey series. The first was played for the campaign 1954/55 (first round). Each side won a leg with a 2-0 score and it was necessary a tie breaker, which was played in Barcelona with Depor winning 2-0.

The second meeting with Alavés in Copa was played during the season 1997/98 (quarterfinals). At the time the team was coached by Jose Manuel Corral and lost the first game 3-1 at Mendizorroza. Donato scored the goal from the penalty spot. And the Galicians were eliminated in this series after only been able to add a 0-0 draw in the second-leg played at the Riazor.

Gaizka Garitano admitted that he has a short squad in order to face two competitions, Florin Andone is doubtful and, with only nineteen men available, including a third keeper,, the coach decided to pick Óscar García for the match. It’s the first time on the season that a Fabril’s player is picked for an official game. Even Borja Valle is on the roster despite the club and Elche CF already agreed in a loan spell, but Garitano doesn’t want to drop more players until signing reinforcements.

The ideal thing would be to rotate players as the team plays again on Friday, but the current situation implies that some players will have to play twice in a matter of four days. The coach tested a 4-2-3-1 formation on Monday, very similar to the lineup that faced Betis in the last game of 2016, but with the novelties of Bruno Gama and Emre Çolak.

Team news: Florin Andone is on the roster for the game, but is dealing with a hamstring problem and could be left out of the meeting if he isn’t fit. That’s why Garitano picked Fabril’s ’Oscar García. Right-back Laure completed the session on Monday, but hasn’t received the medical okay to play and remains at the injury room together with Carles Gil. Playmaker Fayçal Fajr is concentrated with Morocco’s national team, while keeper Przemysław Tytoń is the only man rested for Friday’s game in liga.
Man to watch: Midfielder Álex Bergantiños. The Galician remains as the only field player without minutes in liga and this could be one of his last chances to demonstrate things on the lawn. He made an acceptable job before Betis and Depor need him at midfield before a strong team in defence like Alavés.

Picked players: (19) Lux, Rubén Martínez (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Arribas, Albentosa, Sidnei, Navarro, Luisinho (defenders); Álex Bergantiños Borges, Pedro Mosquera, Çolak, Guilherme, Bruno Gama (midfielders); Joselu, Marlos Moreno, Andone, Óscar García & Borja Valle (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Rubén Martínez –Juanfran, Albentosa, Arribas, Luisinho –Álex Bergantiños, Mosquera – Bruno Gama, Çolak, Marlos Moreno – Joselu.
Deportivo Alavés are not only living a good moment in a sporting sense, this is also a sweet moment in the economic department. After only six months at the elite, the Basques presented a benefit of €8.2 million during their last shareholders meeting, while the budget was lifted to €50 million, which is more than the double had a decade ago when they established a record of €22 million.

So, it isn’t strange to see Alavés already negotiating with Granada CF the buyout clause of their main offensive reference, Deyverson Silva, which is of €7 million. There are also rumours that Alavés are searching for a winger and a striker in the winter window but sporting director Sergio Fernández said at the end of 2016 that they were hardly complete any new incorporation.

Team news: With no injuries affecting his squad, coach Mauricio Pellegrino is mixing normal starters in liga with substitutes. Defenders Carlos Vigaray and Aleksandar Pantić are out after having the chance to play in the previous round before Nástic, but top-scorer Deyverson Silva was picked though it’s expected the Brazilian will start on the bench.

Man to watch: Attacker Christian Santos. The Venezuelan was considered a bargain during the summer market as he was signed for free after shinning in the Eredivisie on last season (18 goals with NEC Nijmegen), but with la liga reaching the midpoint he has been under the shadow of Deyverson after only netting one goal in six presentations. In Copa he was a starter twice before Nástic and didn’t leave a good impression, now this is his big chance to demonstrate things before a Primera rival.

Picked players: (19) Pacheco, Ortolá (goalkeepers); Feddal, Víctor Laguardia, Alexis Ruano, Theo, Hernández, Raúl García (defenders); Manu García., Marcos Llorente., Kiko Femenía, Dani Torres, Krstičić, Víctor Kamarasa, Edgar Méndez (midfielders); Christian Santos, Ibai Gómez, Toquero, Deyverson & Katai (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Ortolá – Femenía, Ruano, Laguardia, Raúl García - Dani Torres, Krstičić – Edgar, Manu García, Ibai Gómez - Christian Santos
