Deportivo urgently need reinforcements on the wings and the stats on this game demonstrates why. Also, for the first time in two years the Galicians clinched back-to-back clean sheets at home.

The seven notes from the game Vs. Villarreal CF:

1- The right side: Many fans were worried after knowing that Laure and Marlos Moreno were going to be starters covering the positions on the right, the first has been out for three months and the latter had completed a poor season and was playing in an improvised position.

The true is that their work ended to be more than acceptable. Laure didn’t have any problem defending the right side and even had time to join the attacks (he made five crosses). In the case of Marlos Moreno, he was pretty active in the first part and made a solo-play that almost ended in goal. Later, in the second half, his performance was diluted and was replaced.

2- Luisinho: The Portuguese was the improvised left winger, he has played there before and knows the position well as he was originally a left winger, but in this game his contribution in attack was inexistent. He completed six crosses and only one met the target.

3- Missing depth on the wings: Deportivo are still missing Carles Gil and Babel; in this game the Galicians released 33 crosses and only 5 met the target. A terrible stat that demonstrates the lack of depth on both wings.

In this game Garitano had to improvise switching Marlos Moreno to the right and with Luisinho performing as a winger and the result wasn’t positive. The worst part is that Bruno Gama and Gil will continue to be unavailable for the next game, so the reinforcements for the position are urgently needed.

4- The positon of Çolak: Garitano is already aware that Emre Çolak should always be playing at the centre of the field, because on the wing he loses presence and weight. For this reason, the draw was switched into a 4-2-3-1 and the Turkish ended been the player with more touches (76), though at times he seemed too alone.

5- Novelty at the centre of the defence: Alejandro Arribas was a novelty as he was preferred over Raúl Albentosa at the centre of the defence, later Garitano explained that it was a measure in order to counteract the speed of Villarreal. In the end the Madrilenian had an acceptable job making five clearances and one tackle, though Sidnei was always the one that shone making three key interceptions, plus three tackles and three clearances.

6- Hitting the woodwork: Andone could have scored the winning goal in a beautiful scissors-kick attempt that hit the near post of Asenjo, it was the most dangerous play for Depor in the entire match. This is the fifth opportunity in which Deportivo hit the post in this league season, only six teams have done it in more opportunities: FC Barcelona (8), Real Madrid (7), RC Celta (7), Atlético Madrid (7), UD Las Palmas (6) and Villarreal CF (6).

7- Clean sheets:After spending a full year allowing goals at home, Depor have now chained two straight clean sheets at home. It’s the first time that this happens since matchdays 15 & 17 of the season 20014/15 (1-0 Vs. Elche CF and 1-0 Vs. Athletic Club).
