KAKUTA SIGNS FOR DEPOR

17 Jan 2017
Kakuta is the second signing of the winter window. He arrives loaned until the end of the season. President Tino Fernández said that this should be the last signing on this market.

Gaël Kakuta is the second signing of the winter window after the arrival of Ola John. Deportivo confirmed its signing on Monday; the player arrived on that day to A Coruña and will undergo the medicals on Tuesday’s morning.  The 25-year-old arrives loaned from Chinese club Chinese Hebei China Fortune FC until the end of the season, the club hasn’t informed if there’s a buyout option over the French player.

Kakuta started his professional career in a controversial way. He was part of RC Lens, but decided to move to Chelsea FC when he was only 18. The French club denounced the case to FIFA as they understood that he was still under contract. Originally the player was banned for four months and fine fined €780,000, while Chelsea FC were banned from selling or buying players during two years. Eventually, the bans were lifted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The true is that the French winger never found a place with “The Blues”. With his contract ruling until 2015, he only made five appearances in the Premier League during his five years at the club. Instead, he was constantly loaned out. During his stage with Chelsea CF he was loaned to six different clubs.

He only shone in two of them, firstly with Dijon FCO for the Ligue 1 tournament of the season 2011/12, at the time he made 16 official appearances scoring 5 goals. Then, with Rayo Vallecano, for the liga season 2014/15, he was one of the best players at the Madrilenian club as they stayed at mid-table. The French made 35 appearances and scored 5 goals.

That was the last of his loan spells and, after his contract with Chelsea FC ended, he signed for free with Sevilla CF. The winger signed a four-year deal with the Andalusians, but only stayed there for six months, because he had only played 185 minutes with the team coached by Unai Emery, and with Chinese Hebei China Fortune FC offering €5.5 million for his transfer the deal was closed without problems. In one year in the Chinse Super League, Kakuta scored 2 goals in 24 matches, but he wasn’t content at the team coached by Manuel Pellegrini and that’s when the chance to return to play again in Spain showed up.

This is the second signing for Depor in this market and according to president Tino Fernández it should be the last one, as he stated after watching the game of  Depor B on Sunday before the deal was confirmed, "The paperwork remains to be done, so he isn't signed yet. Once the papers are in, then it will be done. I don't think we are going to sign anybody else."
