PREVIEW: SD EIBAR – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

28 Jan 2017
Garitano recovers his wingers as his Deportivo launches the second round in liga searching for the first away victory. The rival is facing big problems due to the casualties in defence.

Referee: Juan Martínez Munuera
Kick-off: 18h30 CET (Ipurúa)

STATISTICS: AWAY SORROW
Deportivo remain as one of the four teams in la liga that have been unable to clinch an away victory. The other three teams that are winless on the road are Málaga CF; Sporting Gijón & Granada CF. The last away win for the Galicians was for matchday 37 of the past season: 0-2 at Villarreal CF (May 08, 2016).

Still, Los Blanquiazules are passing through a good moment after living seven straight official games without suffering a defeat (five in liga and three for Copa Del Rey). The last defeat was the visit to Real Madrid (2-3, December 10).

Meanwhile, SD Eibar arrive to the meeting after only picking five of the last eighteen points in dispute and after been eliminated in Copa against Atlético Madrid. The Basques have had a decent record at home (seventeen points in ten home matches) and already lost three times at Ipurúa: 2-3 Vs. CA Osasuna, 0-2 Vs. Atlético Madrid and 0-4 Vs. FC Barcelona.

DEPORTIVO:  THE RETURN OF THE WINGERS
For the first time in 2017, coach Gaizka Garitano is having real options for the wings, first for the return of Carles Gil (knee sprain) and Bruno Gama (adductor), duo that’s fit to play and that’s going directly into the starting formation, and later for the first call of Gaël Kakuta, who left a positive impression during his first week of trainings and that will represent the option on the bench.

Thus, the Basque coach is returning into the 4-2-3-1 scheme, with Emre Çolak performing behind Andone and with Bruno Gama attacking from the left wing. Garitano said that Kakuta is ready to debut, but that he isn’t prepared to play for the full 90 minutes.

Team news:
For the first time in almost three months, there aren’t injured players ahead of an official game, so Garitano only had to make decisions about who should be left out for tactical reasons. He is traveling to the Basque country with nineteen players, this since he decided to include Davy Roef, the Belgian keeper that landed this week replacing Rubén Martinez. The three players left out for tactical reasons are Álex Bergantiños, Luisinho and Ola John, the latter is also working in order to gain fitness, while Fayçal Fajr remains concentrated with Morocco.

Man to watch: Striker Florin Andone. After a pause of two games without scoring, the Romanian netted the equalizer against UD Las Palmas and now accumulates seven goals in his last nine games in la liga tournament. He is now the ninth best scorer in the competition.

Picked players: (19) Tytoń, Lux, Roef (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Laure, Arribas, Albentosa, Sidnei, Navarro (defenders); Borges, Pedro Mosquera, Çolak, Guilherme, Carles Gil, Kakuta, Bruno Gama (midfielders); Joselu, Marlos Moreno & Florin Andone (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Tytoń – Juanfran, Arribas, Sidnei, Navarro –Borges, Guilherme – Carles Gil, Çolak, Bruno Gama – Andone.

SD EIBAR: POSITIVE FEELINGS
This is the third season of SD Eibar at the elite, and curiously it is the one in which Los Armeros have added lesser points after the first round, but still the feelings are positive regarding the performance of a team that tripled its budget for the present campaign (€43.6 million) and that’s targeting to end at mid-table.

A goal that was in question at the beginning after losing marksman Borja Bastón and more recently with the plague of injuries that’s hitting the squad. But the team is closer to the European seats (five points) than to the drop zone (thirteen points).

Team news: Coach José Luis Mendilibar has significant casualties in defence. Goalkeeper Asier Riesgo (knee sprain), centre-back Iván Ramis (Malleolus fracture) and left-back David Juncà (ankle sprain) are injured.

Meanwhile midfielder Gonzalo Escalante is suspended and striker Kike García (fibula) is also injured. Playmaker Fran Mérida was picked despite not been totally fit, that’s why the coach picked nineteen players. Goalkeeper Markel Areitio and winger Imanol Sarriegui had to be picked from the B squad in order to fill the gaps.

Man to watch: Winger Pedro León. The Murcian was signed for free after the relegation of Getafe CF and he had an immediate impact as he is currently the top scorer at the team (6). He scored twice within his last three appearances including a goal in liga against FC Barcelona and a goal in Copa against Atlético Madrid.

Picked players: (19) Yoel Rodríguez, Markel Areitio (goalkeepers) Ander Capa, Anaitz Arbilla, Mauro Dos Santos,  Florian Lejeune, Álex Gálvez, Antonio Luna (defenders), Dani García, Adrián González, Cristian Rivera, Fran Mérida, Imanol Sarriegui, Pedro León, Rubén Peña, Takashi Inui (midfielders), Bebé, Sergi Enrich & Alexander Mesa ‘Nano’ (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Yoel – Capa, Dos Santos, Lejeune, Luna – Dani García, Rivera – Pedro León, Adrián González, Inui - Enrich
