Depor deserved more from this match, but the errors in defence cost the result in what turned to be the first defeat in 2017. Çolak scored and Kakuta debuted.

Coach Gaizka Garitano, who was honoured by SD Eibar before the game, presented the expected lineup. A 4-2-3-1 figure with Przemysław Tytoń at the goal, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Fernando Navarro performed on the left, with Sidnei Rechel and Alejandro Arribas played at the central positions.

Guilherme and Celso Borges were the centre midfielders, Carles Gil returned and covered the right wing. Bruno Gama was also back and attacked from the left flank, Emre Çolak was the playmaker and Florin Andone was the centre forward.

At SD Eibar, José Luis Mendilibar presented the expected team with the only novelty of Álex Gálvez performing at the centre of the defence. Pedro León and Sergi Enrich were the references in attack.

The local pressure and the errors in the local defence allowed Eibar to pick a two-goal advantage after only fifteen minutes, but Depor improved and scored once. The first half was entertaining as both sides were creating scoring opportunities.

Eibar started pressing and Depor completed the first shot on target. It was a lateral free-kick with Bruno Gama firing on target, but it didn’t surprise local goalie Yoel Rodríguez (3’). And then it came the goal from SD Eibar.

Garitano warned before the game that Deportivo needed to be cautious as Eibar normally have strong starts in the games, but they players didn’t pay attention as they allowed Sergi Enrich and Adrián González to combine at the left corner of the area, the latter ended scoring with an impressive volley past Tytoń.

Deportivo were lasting in reacting and the Basques continue to be dangerous, at minute 5, a cross from Takashi Inui, after an error of Sidnei, was close to find a receiver, but Juanfran cleared the danger from inside the box.

Then the Galicians started to have the ball possession and the corner-kicks came, in one of them Sidnei sent the ball over the crossbar after the cross from Çolak (13’). And then it came the second strike by Eibar, after a corner-kick an error of Navarro in the output of the ball allowed Adrián to assist Sergi Enrich and then to cross Tytoń with a drilling shot from the right side of the box.

And Depor reacted quickly as only four minutes later the Galicians scored, Carles Gil made the play on the right wing and his accurate cross was headed by Emre Çolak inside the box. The goal opened the game and both sides were having chances, so the actions were entertaining.

In one of those actions Borges was close to score after a cross from Juanfran, but the midfielder headed the ball out (22’). SD Eibar were also pushing and Pedro León got a chance with a direct free-kick that was blocked by Tytoń (34’).

Depor looked dangerous, but at the same time it also looked misplaced in offense. Juanfran and Carles Gil were damaging on the right, but Bruno Gama was disappeared, something that forced Andone to perform on the left side, and with Lejeune marking him then the Galicians were missing to finish the plays.

Deportivo were much better than Eibar in the second part, but that superiority ended with the third goal of the Basques (only their second chance in the half). The Galicians wasted too many opportunities and paid the price for their errors at the back.

The final half started like the first: With excitement. Capa collected the ball inside the area, but his low shot was an easy catch for Tytoń (46’). Depor responded with a great play of Andone, who finally found the way to penetrate by the right side and this time his strong shot from the box was saved by Yoel (48’). That was going to be the first of a serious of key saves for the ex-Celta goalie.

With the passage minutes Depor gained total control of the actions and the shots on target came, Bruno Gama (52’) and Çolak (54’) were close to score and Yoel made the saves.

There was also a clear penalty over Çolak, a defender arrived late when the Turkish was backwards the goal trying to collect a cross from the right. The picture of Riazor.org clearly showed the foul. The arrivals for Eibar were now more sporadic, the next one was a shot of Florian Lejeune blocked by Tytoń after a corner-kick (60’).

And with Depor harassing, Garitano moved the bench and allowed the debut of Gaël Kakuta replacing Bruno Gama. The Frenchman didn’t have any impact in the game, but called the attention with his individual moves.

Andone had a repetition of his previous chance, again entering by the right wing, and again Yoel made the save (67’).  In the next play Carles Gil missed the target after collecting the cross by Juanfran. He was alone inside the area.

Depor were forgiving too much and the Galicians were going to pay a high price in the second chance for Eibar in this half, it was a corner-kick action in which the visiting team thought there was an offside after a bad clearance, but everything was okay and Enrich ended assisting Florian Lejeune and the defender just had to push the ball in from inside the box. Enrich was a real nightmare for Depor and ended with a goal and two assists.

The second change was the entry of Joselu for Carles Gil and the third the presence of Marlos Moreno for Borges.  But it was too late, the two-goal disadvantage was a heavy burden and Los Blanquiazules surrendered. Within the last ten minutes the only chance was for substitute Rubén Peña with a shot in which he missed the target (85’).

Disappointing game of Deportivo, the Galicians did enough merits to get something from this game, but the errors in defence provoked the first defeat in 2017. A possible penalty over Çolak and a great chance for Carles Gil, plus the saves of Yoel against Andone avoided the equalizer in a good second half for Depor.

The result leaves Deportivo close to the relegation zone, but somehow calmed after the defeat of Granada CF and the draw of CA Osasuna. The exact distance with the pit will depend of the result of Sporting Gijón visiting Athletic Club. The next game is on Friday hosting Real Betis (20h45 CET).
