Fede Cartabia is the first signing of the season 2017/18. He will play loaned at SC Braga until June and will return to A Coruña during the summer.

The soap opera of Fede Cartabia at Valencia CF ended abruptly on Tuesday; since the summer the Argentine playmaker is trying to leave the chaotic environment surrounding Los Ches and had an agreement with Deportivo back in September, but the relation between both clubs was poor after the cases with Sidnei and Mosquera, so they kept the player and the idea is to negotiate a renewal as he was ending contract in June.

But Cartabia never wanted this, he even had a confrontation at the beginning of January with coach Voro and was accused of not wanting to play for Valencia in a Copa game. That incident accelerated the exit of the player, which ended on deadline day as the Valencian club announced that he was rescinding his contract.

Depor weren’t counting in signing the player now as the squad for the rest of the season is already closed, but with his premature exit the club moved fast and agreed a five-year contract starting in June, the other part of the job was to negotiate a loan spell until then, this in order to keep the player in action, and both parties accepted a loan deal with SC Braga in Portugal.

Cartabia only played 152 minutes in la liga with Valencia during the present season. Better was his performance at Depor on the previous campaign (1,355 minutes in la liga). The Argentine playmaker had problems to adapt to the team, either by physical problems or for his shy personality, in the first round he only shone for scoring a great goal at Real Betis (Sept 24) and later for giving an assist against Athletic Club (Oct 18).

Everything changed for the second part of the season, moment when he was the best player at the team. Víctor Sánchez used him more as a right winger and the difference with him on the field was noticed. Cartabia was the only player that improved his level in the second round and ended the season with three goals in favour plus three assists.
