Depor’s coach wasn’t content with the performance, but was proud of the reaction from his players. There was controversy with the penalty that allowed the draw, for Víctor Sánchez it was an unfair call.

Pepe Mel wasn’t happy for the way Depor started to face the game, “I believe many things got together, in the first place I believe that, in the first half, we didn’t’ understand quite well the draw proposed by Betis. We had talked that Betis were going to play with five men at the back and a diamond at midfield, it was like that and one striker, but things didn’t work out. We weren’t into the game for the first 25 minutes.”

“Later things changed, as we started to yell we switched things, Çolak started to appear and Carles [Gil] entered the game going into the centre. I told the players at half-time: if I wanted players only running then I wouldn’t put you on the field, so if you value in football is to hold on the ball then you should do it. If we wanted to defend then I would have put another lineup. The second half was totally different, Depor were much better and I believe this is a fair reward.” He added.

But the Madrilenian coach was still satisfied for the sacrifice of his players, “In past opportunities Depor would have surrendered; now the players were believing in the draw. They even believed in the victory after the equalizer. I am content with this. The draw was a pity as we were convinced of the victory, which was going to mean to put other teams in problems, but I am content as I never saw my players giving up.”

He was also emphasizing the importance of the five points added after his arrival, “I want to remember that, before the final whistle against Atlético Madrid, Depor were tied in points with Granada, and therefore at the edge of relegation, now we are five points away and seven above Sporting, and this has a high cost, both physiological and physical.”

Mel commented the injury of Sidnei, “I talked with the doctor and we don’t know anything about Sidnei. He is a valuable player, but cannot be sad if we lose him. We will use the players that we have, we all still a big team.” And he also talked of the penalty, “I was lucky as I clearly watched the play, Celso, a specialist in the aerial game, fell down after been connected. For me it was clear, luckily the referee saw it too.”

Fayçal Fajr was saying that the point was good, “We wanted to grab the three points, but in front there was a good team like Betis that gave a lot of problems at the beginning, but we added points and that’s the most important thing for us.”
The Moroccan applauded the reaction of Depor and also the arrival of Pepe Mel, “We knew that we weren’t playing as always and that we needed to change things, but we are playing before a rival with a lot of people in defence, it was a problem, but within the last twenty minutes of the first part we changed our playing style and had a lot of chances to win. We needed something new and it is working.”

Alejandro Arribas was saying that the result is good, though the team wanted the victory, “As the game was, we aren’t content, but we are fine as we added. Another game without losing and the true is that the team worked hard.”

The centre-back also thinks that the team is gaining confidence as the results are arriving, “I believe the team fought until the end and you can see now that the team has more confidence, with and without the ball. We reversed a negative result, something that was hard before with Gaizka, and now we face a big rival on Sunday, but the big rivals also lose.”

Celso Borges didn’t have a good game, but was crucial provoking a penalty and later scoring from the spot, for him the foul in the penalty action was clear, “For me it was penalty, he hit me in the jaw and also in the rest of the face.”

About the game, the midfielder commented that, “They started pretty strong, blocking our output of the ball, so it was hard to damage them, but in the end we found the way. We never surrendered as we were always in the game, and in the end we got a reward through a point, which is always positive.”

At Real Betis, Víctor Sánchez was complaining of the penalty, “They have deprived us from achieving a victory and we are upset for it. We never talk of the referees, but within the last matchdays we have been affected. We weren’t lucky and we are upset. “

“In the second half the team was fine in a defensive sense, the level was high, but it was hard to us the fact of trying to chill out the game. We did it in the last stretch and claimed the lead and even had opportunities for the 0-2” He added.
