NOTES FROM THE GAME WITH GRANADA CF

07 Apr 2017
Depor is about to tie it’s worst scoreless mark during this season, while the team already wasted four penalties, the highest number in la liga.

The six notes from the game against Granada CF:

1- New switch in the draw, old punch: With Joselu suspended, Pepe Mel returned to the 4-2-3-1, this time with Çolak as a starter, but the impression left is the same one of the previous two games, because Deportivo barely created any problem against one of the worst defences in the league. Çolak barely appeared and the team only created five chances to score. Perhaps the most worrying thing was that Granada CF were constantly losing the ball in defence and not even with these gifts Depor were able to score a goal. It will be hard to see these concessions in the remaining of the league.

2- Three games without scoring a goal: After the victory over FC Barcelona, Depor have spent three games without scoring a goal, which means 287 minutes scoreless. It’s the second worst streak for the team on this season after the one had between matchdays 02 and 05 (303 minutes, scoreless against Betis, Athletic and Alavés).

3- Carles Gil & Marlos Moreno: Lights and shadows with the two wingers used in the game, Carles Gil picked a knock at the beginning and was dragging a groin problem, so he passed unnoticed until been replaced early in the second half. Meanwhile, Marlos looked better despite only playing a few minutes recently, though having problems to surpass Dimitri Foulquier, and when he did it then the Colombian always chose the worst decision to end the plays.

4- Another busy game for Guilherme Borges returned to play alongside Guilherme at midfield, but Depor looked too thick in the construction of game. Still, the Brazilian was for the second straight game the man that made more touches at Depor (66).

5- The freshness of Ola John Once again Ola John came out from the bench and gave freshness to the team, he only made twelve touches, but one was one of the five chances to score in which he missed the target and another was the accurate cross in the play of the penalty.

6- The penalties: For the second straight matchday Deportivo wasted a penalty that should have meant to add points, it was the seventh for the Galicians in this league season and the fourth that was missed. Depor is now the club that have missed more penalties on this season. Babel (matchday 14) failed a penalty against Real Sociedad, though later he scored after collecting the loose ball. Çolak missed his penalty against Sporting Gijón (matchday 26), Fajr missed on last Sunday (matchday 29) and now it was the turn for Borges.
