Deportivo returned to winning ways, but only rescued the game in the second part after the boredom of the first half. Joselu and Mosquera scored the goals.

Coach Pepe Mel chose to play with a 4-2-3-1 formation. Once again Florin Andone was left on the bench, while the Madrilenian manager opted in playing with three wingers in the starting formation, one of them, Carles Gil, was performing as a playmaker.

German Lux was the starting goalie, Juanfran Moreno covered the right side in defence, Luisinho performed on the left, Sidnei Rechel and Alejandro Arribas covered the central positons, Guilherme and Celso Borges were the centre midfielders, Bruno Gama attacked from the right wing, Gaël Kakuta did it from the left, then Carles Gil was performing behind Joselu.
At Málaga CF, Míchel presented the expected 4-2-3-1 formation with the novelty that Juan Carlos Pérez ‘Juankar’ was performing as a winger and not as a left-back. Also Chory Castro was a starter. The reference for the goals was Sandro Ramírez. Mauro Silva attended to the game and was honoured at half-time.

Poor performance witnessed by the Riazor in the first half, Deportivo were unable to make any damage and Málaga CF seemed content with the draw. The result was a boring game with only three shots on target and zero excitement.

Slow start for Deportivo in the game, the Galicians didn’t feel comfortable and were missing too many passes. Málaga CF had the ball possession, but their only approximation within the first ten minutes was a shot of Chory Castro without any consequence (1’).

The first approximation for the locals was a lateral free-kick in which neither Joselu nor Arribas found the way to connect the ball when both were inside the box (6’). Deportivo were stuck in the game, it didn’t find fluency at midfield and neither succeeded in the counterattack as they lacked aim with the passes. So, they spent more time moving the ball into the sides and later didn’t find any road to the goal.

Neither Málaga did too much, they were much better passing the ball, but later they were unable to create a scoring chance. It seemed that the Andalusians were content holding on and waiting for a set-piece or a counterattack.

The first shot for Depor was a cross by Luisinho that Joselu headed out (17’).  Nothing occurred in the next 30 minutes, the locals tried but their crosses never met the target. Meanwhile, Pablo Fornals was pretty active in Málaga, but the visiting side never had the needed depth. The first shot on target was an attempt of Rosales that was caught by Lux (29’).

Mel ordered Kakuta and Carles Gil to switch positions, and then Depor completed its first -and only- shot on target in this half, it was an error in the output of the ball in which Bruno Gama assisted Carles Gil at the edge of the area, and the curved shot from the winger was stopped by visiting goalie Carlos Kameni (31’). Juankar had the next chance to score with a low shot that was blocked by Lux (38’). Nothing more occurred within the last five minutes.

Things were easier in the final part as Deportivo found an early goal, later found the second and Málaga CF only reacted in the end, but missed some luck and aim. The Galicians were better despite not having the ball possession.

Deportivo only needed ninety seconds to score the first goal in the game, Málaga CF failed in the output of the ball and Luisinho took advantage to release a cross from the left, Joselu was at the penalty spot to head the ball home and net his fourth goal on the season.

The game became more entertaining with the goal, Málaga CF were now more hurried and Depor found the space to release their attacks, something that they never met in the first part. The first substitution was the entry of Florin Andone for Joselu and The Romanian had the next chance to score with a low shot that Kameni blocked (59’).

The second substitution was the entry of Pedro Mosquera for Bruno Gama, now Depor were playing with a 4-3-3, Carles Gil and Kakuta were the wingers and Mosquera was the link with midfield.

Then Depor found the second goal, Juanfran released a cross from the right, Carles Gil deflected it and Mosquera came from behind to score his fourth goal on the season. Míchel made offensive changes throughout the second part, but his team only reacted for the final ten minutes.

First Sandro completed a shot on target that was saved by Lux (79’), one minute later Camacho attempted with a strong shot from outside the area, the ball hit the crossbar when Lux was already defeated and later the defence cleared the danger. The final change for the Galicians was the entry of Ola John for Kakuta. The Andalusians pushed during the final minutes, but it was already too late.

Not a good game for Deportivo, the team was terrible in the first part and in the second they simply found the goals at the precise moment to end the meeting administrating the result. Málaga had the ball possession all the time, but hey never gave a real sense of danger.

The victory approaches the salvation, but the Galicians are paying a high price as Guilherme, Arribas and Carles Gil picked their fifth yellow card on the season, so they are now suspended for the visit to Real Sociedad (Anoeta, Sunday, 12h00 CET).
